Living in an RV, Henly RV Park, Friday, December 29, 2023

I slept very well and made several attempts to get up, but each time kept throwing the covers back over me saying, “Just one more minute, just one more minute”. Eventually, I crawled out to a bright and sunny morning but with a definite chill in the air.

We wandered around on the first walk of the day but only covered a half mile as it was very brisk out and I had not dressed accordingly.

Back in the RV, I made tea instead of coffee, but it did not really hit the spot. Then I tried to make a bacon sandwich. The first two attempts resulted in burning the toast and the last attempt was not much better. Maybe, there is something wrong with the toaster. What else?

I sat and wrote and brought the blog up to date and wondered what else I could do today. I had no plans and not much to do inside the RV. I knew that I really needed to go into town to go grocery shopping but decided to do it tomorrow as I had enough of the essentials for today. I really do not eat very much and try hard to keep it that way when I am partying. So far, I am still managing to hold my weight to 165 pounds but most of my upper body and stomach is now flab as the muscles have disappeared. I could start working out again but have no reason to look like a weight lifter at my age.

We did a lot of sitting around and the dogs just love it when we all three are on the couch snoozing or otherwise doing nothing. I like it too as there is a lot to be said for doing the afore mentioned nothing and just plain relaxing.

It really was a quiet day, and we did a lot of sitting around doing nothing. I have an unwritten law that says we do not watch TV during the day unless it is a very special football match. We did not even walk very far and barely covered a mile for the day.

I finally fed us all and we sat around and watched a Premier League game in the evening before heading off to bed. All in all, a very quiet day.

The view from my RV

The month and the year are both rapidly coming to an end as we race towards 2024. Wonder what it will bring? I am not sure if I would want to know the future especially, any bad parts because it is inevitable and cannot be changed. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

We went out for the usual first walk of the day. Our lives are so predictable that a trip into the HEB store is almost an occasion. Reminds me of days of long ago when a trip to the market in a horse and buggy was special. In my case, back in England it was either by Shanks Pony or on my bike. For you uninitiated, Shanks Pony means on foot. My bike was not fancy as it was put together by my brothers and consisted of enough bits and pieces to be able tp pedal and steer it. It even had a homemade seat which was not very comfortable. Still, it was a bike, and it was mine.

Back in the RV, I fixed breakfast all around. Today was a good day as at least Sandy ate hers which is a good thing as it contains her medication. Sometimes, Mikey does not eat his until the evening but that is OK as his does not have any medication.

After the usual household chores and tidying up the RV, I decided to go into Dripping Springs to the HEB located there. I studiously made a list at least to remind me not necessarily to not let me buy other things not on list. I can walk right by something on the shelf and know that I need it and still have not put it in my cart. Lots of other “stuff” finds its way in though.

I wandered around and found pretty much everything I needed and also bought beer for both Daniel and the girls as they were out the last time I stopped over. With the shopping finished, I headed back to the RV park bypassing the usual stop at Starbucks. Coffee just does not taste that good anymore.

Back in the RV, I had the sniffy noses as the dogs helped unload the groceries and put them away. Yeah, right…With that chore finished for another few days, we went out for a walk about. Both dogs were glad to be out and stretching their legs as was I. We wandered around the park and managed to cover 1.7 miles although some of that was in HEB for me at least.

We stopped by the girls RV, and they were both sitting outside and invited me to have a beer with them. Turns out, I had bought the very small cans of beer which was the subject of much derision and laughter. Donna, who is one of the girls bus driving mates, was there as was Gary who was also sitting with them and told us several stories of his past life. It is always interesting listening to other people’s lives.

BJ had cooked up sausage and beef and we ate although in my case, sparingly. Trying really hard not to get caught up in the nonstop eating and drinking that goes on in the park. I even restricted my alcohol intake to two very small beers. When we walk around and depending on the time of day, many of the RV tenants are using their outside grilles to cook up their food. I have one but do not use it as I prefer to use my indoor grille for any meat cooking that I do. Mine is usually chicken thighs for the dogs and occasionally small beef steaks for me.

Gary left and a while later, I thanked the girls and followed him home back to my RV. We went out for a quick walk about before feeding the dogs, watching television and then going to bed. Me, I did not need feeding as the girls had already taken care of that.

We watched a Premier League game and then went to bed.
