Notice what it says on the sign, Bull and BEAR Ranch.
I awoke early even before 7:00 am and lay there trying to decide if I should get up. I was not helped by the fact that it was a cloudy and rainy day although we had no major plans that would take me outside except of course, walking the dogs.
I lay there for a while and then made the bold and very brave decision of getting out of bed. After a moment’s consideration, I decided it was not so bad and dressed ready to face the day, sort of. The first thing was the bird seed holders followed by a walk around the park and up towards Hwy 290. I had dressed for the occasion, but it was not too bad out, just a little nippy and in truth, I had overdressed.
We covered 8/10s of a mile before returning to The Caboose, which incidentally, was nice and cozy inside. I fixed breakfast for everyone including myself and then sat and wrote in the blog bringing us up to date.
Some of the day was spent sitting around and doing nothing. This was after I had done the few chores that needed my attention.
I sat and thought about portable generators and whether I should spend the money on one. It would be a backup for the regular shore power. I certainly do not want the plumbing to freeze inside of the RV if we do have a power outage.
I mentioned it to Daniel while we were drinking coffee in the Breakroom and as we sat there, he got busy and between him and Jeff, in no time flat they had worked their way through the many generators that were on display in the catalogue. Daniel came up with the one I should buy and went ahead to do just that using my credit card. It should be here in a week which is about when the first cold snap is supposed to hit us. Incidentally, the generator is a “just in case” if the main power goes out for any reason both in the winter for heat and the summer for A/C. I thanked him for his help and just then, Malinda walked in and joined our little group.
We sat and chatted for a bit and then I left to walk the dogs. We wandered around the park and managed to cover 2.1 miles for the day.
Feeling much better about the future weather and what we have done to address it, I returned to The Caboose and brought in the bird feeders for one more day. Incidentally, about the only birds that are coming around are Sparrows, Doves and Pigeons.
Then, we adjourned inside of The Caboose for the evening meal and the usual dose of television.

Living in an RV
Henly RV Park
Tuesday, January 9th, 2024
I slept well and very reluctantly crawled out of bed around 8:15 am. I knew that I did not have anything planned for today. Just as well as it was kind of cold when we went out for that first walk. My hands especially felt cold so I need to find my gloves and I have no clue where they may be. They can’t be far as the RV is not that big…
The weather forecast is showing a huge dip in temperatures at the end of the week to as low as 18 degrees. That is ridiculous. How can it go from 45 to 18 overnight? I hope the electric grid can stand the strain as my new generator may not be here in time.
Prior to walking, we started the day in the usual fashion of both filling and hanging the bird feeders before we went out. It was cold out and my hands especially felt it. Must be turning into a wimp as I grow older.
I fixed breakfast and had a yearning for a bowl of porridge, Oatmeal to you Americans which went down OK. I am having trouble finding food that appeals to me and not just for breakfast. I sat and wrote the blog bringing us up to date with all the postings.
I thought about what I might do today and did not come up with very much except to go to HEB. Oh yes, maybe find the gloves…I was sitting on the couch thinking about what I needed to do when the dogs started barking as Daniel pulled up in his buggy. I slipped on a jacket and went out to greet him. He was doing some follow up work on the frosty weather that is forecast in a couple of days and was concerned about my water supply and such. We have already ordered a generator, but it will not be here for a couple of days and in order for it to work on the RV, we need to lower our intake from a 50 amp to a 30 Amp and it will need a different connection than what I have.
I thought I had one that is needed and searched high and low to no avail. Daniel too, thought he had one, but he cannot find his spare ones either. There was nothing for it but to order online again and hope the part arrives in time for the cold weather. Daniel took care of it. He is such a helpful person.
He went on his way, and I went back inside this time to search through some papers in order to pay the insurance on The Caboose. I took care of it and now both the car and the RV are insured for another 6 months. At least, now I only have two vehicles that need to carry insurance and they are both covered for another year.
We harnessed up and went out walking for the last walk of the day and managed to cover 1.5 miles which, considering how chilly it is, was a good number. Not bad for a chilly and uncomfortable day to be outside. Then we adjourned back indoors and just sat for a while luxuriating in the warmth of the house heaters before feeding the dogs and then myself. I did a few more cleanup type chores as I slowly am tidying up the house. Then, I grabbed a small bottle of wine and sat down in front of the computer.
Incidentally, I took time out to treat the bug infestation that we have in the front cabinets of the RV and managed to clear up a lot of the problem. Something to keep an eye on though. Dolores called and offered her services to help with the cleanup if necessary.
The rest of the evening was spent in the usual way.
