Living in an RV Henly RV Park Friday, January 12, 2024

I slept very well waking up refreshed and ready to face the day. After the usual morning ablutions, I harnessed up the dogs and tied them to the outside table while I brought out the feeders.  Then, as we usually do, we went walking only this time, we only made one circuit of the Breakroom before returning to the RV. It was bloody cold out and the wind made the chill factor even lower. I wished I had put on my track suit bottoms. Both dogs had taken their bathroom break in that short walk, which was the important thing.

Daniel stopped by and brought me a 5-gallon gas can for my new generator when it gets here. The real cold front is not due here until Sunday and then is forecast to last the following four days. We’ll see… While Daniel was here, we discussed what needs to happen from my perspective and he said he would give me help when the time came. Mostly, it is preparation work for the cold front which is forecast to have sub arctic temperatures both through the day and at night.

I fixed breakfast all around and Sandy did good by eating all of hers as did Mikey. So, today was a good day foodwise. I fixed a Breakfast Patty for myself, and it actually tasted pretty good.

After breakfast, I directed my attention to the cabinets I had emptied yesterday and straightened out the contents. I Had to literally scrub some of the pots and pans to get them clean from the stain marks. Following that, I sat around a bit not really doing anything except contemplating and like I said, that was about nothing in particular.

Finally, we went out for another walk-about and this time, we took Henly Loop to Hwy 290. We saw several deer and the pair of Zebras in the wildlife area and on the other side, the Bull and its harem of three females plus two young calves all in one place in the field across from the campsites.

Altogether, we covered 1.7 miles for the day, and we returned with the intention of sitting outside but unfortunately, it was way too cold for that, and we ended up indoors where the heaters had the place nicely warmed up.

Living in an RV
Henly RV Park
Saturday January 13, 2024

It was nice and toasty in bed and even after I awoke, I was reluctant to leave that warm spot. The dogs must have felt the same way as they were in no hurry to get up either. We finally crawled out and after the usual bathroom routine, dressed and ready to face another day.

The first thing was to tie the dogs up outside and then start work on the bird feeders. I had to refill seed in every feeder as the birds had worked them over pretty well. With that out of the way, we harnessed up and went out walking around the park. It was cold out and I dressed accordingly except that I still wore shorts. I am saving the long pants for when it gets really cold, which is forecast in a couple of days’ time.

We almost covered a mile on that first walk, only 1/10 short and we can make that up on the other walks we do today. I had just eaten breakfast and Daniel knocked on the door and informed me that he had the new generator in the back of his truck. I helped him unload it and get it out of its boxes. He asked me if I had bought gas for it and when I said I hadn’t, he suggested that I go get some ASAP.

Before I jumped in the Jeep to drive to the nearest Valero station which is a couple of miles down the road to fill the 5-gallon gas can he had given me, I lowered the rack that is attached to the back of the Jeep helped by Malinda. I did not want to carry the gas can inside the car and so strapped it to the carry rack. then made my way to the gas station. With the 5 gallon can full, I drove back to Henly and in no time flat, he had the generator running and let it do so for ten minutes. He set it where it was within reach of the power chord so that I could plug it in if I must. Incidentally, the generator is a standby just in case the power goes out during this upcoming cold spell. We will still use shore power as long as it is available.

Malinda had joined us to help, and she is much more than just a very capable helper. She knows a lot about mechanical things as well and puts me to shame. With everything set up and tested, they both left to do other helpful things around the park as I am not the only idiot out there or to put it politely, less knowledgeable. Incidentally, the residents of this park may not know just how helpful Daniel and Malinda, Jeff and Terri, and to a lesser extent, Gary, really are.

I went back indoors to work on the blog and caught up with it and went out for another walk. It was cold out and I put my track bottoms on to keep my legs warm willing to endure any comments. We wandered around but did not stay out long or walk very far because the wind was so cold.

Back in The Caboose, we settled down with the evening meal and then television. For some reason, I was tired and went to bed at 9:00 pm, something unheard of.
