I awoke early and ready to get up and at ‘em. Amazing what a good night’s sleep can do. After the usual morning ablutions, it was time to go out for the first walk of the day. We must have been in a walking mood as we managed to cover1.2 miles on that first walk which was up to Hwy 290 and back. We did not see any exotics on the walk,
Back in the RV, I tied the dogs up to the table so they could watch and then brought out the bird feeders. The only ones I had to fill were the two big circular ones which the birds throw out the seed as they look for whatever appeals to them. I do not have to clean it up as the deer do it at night.
Then it was breakfast time, and I fed the dogs only for both to turn their noses up. Nothing unusual about that. Mikey will eat his later as he always does but the jury is still out on Sandy. As it happened, when I fed her later, the same bowl she cleaned it right up and licked the bowl clean which is good as she takes all her medicine that way.
With breakfast out of the way all around and that first cup of coffee in hand, I turned my attention to the blog. I was very much caught up with just the remainder of yesterday and the start of a new one for today.
Daniel stopped by and we chatted about different things. Today, he is working down at the new bath house hanging ductwork. That man can do everything construction wise. Not only is he a willing worker, but he also has the knowledge to go along with it and can apply it to many different areas of construction. I hope the boss man recognizes the talent that he is dealing with.
With the blog all caught up and posted, I turned my attention to working on the two plant protectors that I had bought. They are not as good as the previous ones and are made with a smaller gauge wire and therefore not as strong. They also had way too long “legs” which made it hard to push them into the ground. Daniel had brought over his hacksaw for me to use and I got to work on shortening the leg part of the contraptions. With the legs shortened up, I was able to push them in the ground around a couple of plants that I am trying to protect from the deer.
The real secret is recognizing which type of plants the deer eat as there are many of them that they do not touch. My guess it is something to do with the texture of the plant as the ones that they eat have basically the same type of growth.
We went out for another walk around the park and just wandered with no particular direction in mind and managed to cover 2 miles for the day. When we got back, we sat outside on the deck just watching the world go by with a bottle of beer for company. It was quiet and peaceful, and I thanked my lucky stars for having such a great life surrounded by all my friends who keep an eye on me.
As it started to get dark, I brought in all the feeders so that the deer could not empty them through the night and then we adjourned back indoors for the evening meal and television.
I made the mistake of finding something worth watching which had two episodes and naturally had to watch both just to see the ending. Needless to say, it was 12:30 am when I went to bed. Oh well…
