Living in an RV Henly RV Park Thursday 05/09/2024

I slept well and was wide awake and ready to get out of bed. I looked at the time which was a little after 8:00 am and lay there for a bit thinking about the upcoming day and what I had to do. We did not have anything important planned and would just play it by ear, as the saying goes.

The morning started as it usually does with hitching the dogs up to the table and bringing out the feeders. It is very noticeable that without the Grackles, the seed lasts a lot longer and does not require daily refills.

Then we harnessed up and wandered over to the dumpster and then back to the Commons where Gary was sitting outside. We stopped and chatted for a while before hitting the road. Our morning walk was not very long, only about a half mile, but the dogs did their business, which is why we walked anyway. Incidentally, it was already hot and humid, and this was at 9:00 am.

Back in the RV, I fixed us all breakfast and as usual, I was the only one to eat it. The dogs saved theirs for later.

Then it was time to work on the blog which did not take too long as I was pretty much caught up and besides nothing very exciting has happened in the last couple of days unless you count a visit from the RV Repairman as exciting.

James, the RV Repairman worked on the water system to try to get both hot and a cold working together. If you remember from an earlier posting, the hot water would not shut off and eventually overflowed until I shut the system down completely. James was as frustrated as I was with the problem and had tried several different cures none of which worked for any length of time. Usually ending up with a part burning out or something similar causing him to try something different.

He spent a couple of hours on it before he was satisfied it was working properly. I paid him and he moved on to the next job and we went out for another walk. We did not go far just walking around the park, but we got some exercise.

An hour or so later, the water was still just lukewarm, so we still have the same problem. Need to get James back out here again but at least, lukewarm water is better than cold.

We were out walking, and it started to cloud over very rapidly. Then it started to drop hailstones bigger than a chicken’s egg. Intermittently at first but gathering momentum.

Luckily, we were almost home when it started, and we made a beeline to get indoors to the comparative safety of the RV where we listened to the ice dropping onto the roof. The storm lasted almost a half hour and I grew more concerned with each crash as the ice continued to fall.

It eventually stopped and I went out to inspect the damage. I checked the Jeep first and discovered that both of the sliding roof panels were in a million pieces and the space was also flooded with rainwater. Then I turned my attention to the RV and the damage there was not too bad. Both roof vents had a couple of holes where the ice had fallen through and will need to be replaced but on the whole, I got off lightly. At least the roof itself was not damaged.

Gary stopped by and took a look, and he agreed that it would keep until tomorrow. There was nothing I could do, and we adjourned indoors for the usual evening meal and TV.
