We had a storm the other day
that Nature decided should come our way
with hail the size of tennis balls
breaking things in the way of their fall
we were outside when it began
just me and the dogs walking the land
and when that first chunk hit the ground
we doubled our pace at the clunking sound
and managed get back inside the RV
before the hail started falling free
it smashed into my little car
breaking the glass both near and far
the Jeep had a sliding glass roof
and the hail needing proof
that it was stronger than the glass could be
broke it to pieces more than I could see
and the windshield suffered the same fate
with cracks all over although it did not break
I wondered about the RV
what damage that I could see
anything glass like a vent on the roof
with holes and no longer waterproof
which Gary my friend patched with tape
to keep out the rain and for safety’s sake
I called James the Repair man to come out and see
what the storm had done to me
and all the others in the park
work for him to leave his mark
Nature is a powerful thing
that we take for granted hoping she’ll bring
sunshine and showers to make things grow
and everything showing like ducks in a row
and then she turns her anger to vent
and continues on until she is spent
and we the humans have no clue
at whatever else she chooses to do.
