Living in an RV Henly RV Park Sunday 10/19/2025

I had a funny old nights sleep awakening a couple of times for no apparent reason. I managed to drop back off so was no worse for lack of it. I got up at the usual time and took a quick shower, harnessed up Mikey and out the door we went. We wandered around as we usually do not going anywhere in particular and taking our time. Mikey had a million smells that he had to check out while I waited patiently to continue walking. Maybe, I need to learn how to smell things and join him. Wait a minute, that would mean getting down on my hands and knees so forget that idea…

I fixed a bowl of corn flakes for breakfast along with that all important coffee. The corn flakes, I could do without but some sort of a morning drink, either tea or coffee is very important. I am not a big eater and can get by with the bare minimum of food. It’s not like I need boundless amounts of energy with my current lifestyle.

I was expecting a family to bring a dog by that we had been communicating about and sure enough, close to the allotted time they pulled up outside of the meeting place. They were a family which consisted of a Mother, Father and a small son of about five or six years old. We had agreed to meet at the Whole Foods Store at Bee Caves shopping Mall.

The dogs name is Summer and she is a Shit Tzu of about 8 years old.She is the cutest little thing and Mikey didn’t know what to make of her. They had brought all of her”stuff” which I put in the Jeep and then came back and took possession of my new to me, dog. I thanked them profusely and drove back to Dripping Springs with my new dog sitting on the floor (her choice) and Mikey on my lap. The trip home was quick and easy and nothing special happened.

Back at the RV, I decided to go out for a walk so that Summer could get used to our routines. It was interesting watching the two dogs as they tried to work out an understanding. At one point, Mikey snapped at Summer and I had to reprimand him. I tried to encourage her to get on my lap but I guess it is not something she is used to. We need to work on that.

We wandered around and I introduced Summer to The Girls and Delores and anyone else we ran into. Josh drove by and pulled up to make a fuss of her. I’m sure it was a lot for the little dog to take in. Incidentally, she is a stubborn little girl and on our walks, if she doesn’t like the way we are going, she digs in and refuses to budge until we change direction.

Later that evening, I wandered over to my friend Dolores’s RV and we sat drinking a couple of beers and chatting about everything. When it was time for me to go back to my RV, I realized that I still had to bring in the bird feeders and in order to be able to see what I was doing, I had to turn on the outside lights and bring in the overhead canopy.

With everything put away, I adjourned back indoors and watched a horror movie on the TV for the rest of the evening all the time keeping an eye on our new little buddy who slept most of the time.

We went to bed and as usual, Mikey was the first one in it. I tried to get Summer to get on the bed and ended up physically lifting her onto it. As soon as I let her go, she found a way off the bed onto the floor and found herself a hidey hole. That is where she spent the rest of the night. I guess she is not used to sleeping on a bed.

And so ended our first day with our new furry friend.
