Living In An RV

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Sunday November 02, 2025

    November 8th, 2025

I got up at a reasonable hour and the sun was shining and it looked that it would be another beautiful day. I have no plans and neither do I have any transport as Delores still has the Jeep. I think she is due back today but it matters not as we don’t have any place to be.

We went for our usual walk about after bringing out the bird feeders. Currently, there are very few birds that come and visit as many have flown to places warm to spend the winter. Yesterday, it did cool down a little and today, it has warmed back up again. It is hard to forecast Texas weather.

I fixed the dogs breakfast and then found a couple of pieces of toast for myself along with the all important coffee. I worked on the blog as I sat and ate and thought about the day ahead.

One of the guests that had pulled in yesterday was hooking up and getting ready to leave. First of though, he took his dogs out for a ride in a little pull along wagon. I counted five that were either Yorkies or Lhasa Apsos. Quite the package. Funny thing was they were very happy riding in the waggon as he took them walking although, they never got much exercise. Then they hooked up the RV and pulled out for places unknown (to me).

The rest of the day was as usual, very quiet. Delores returned the Jeep and we sat talking and drinking beer which she supplied, for a while and I got to learn about her trip. She went back to her RV and I brought in the feeders as another day came to an end.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday November 01, 2025

    November 7th, 2025

I had a funny old night and tossed and turned and was generally pretty restless. I had no idea why I could not settle down. I must have eventually dropped off to sleep because it was almost 9:00 am when I awoke.

I wandered around the RV and put up the blinds to let the daylight in. It was a very cloudy day and the skies looked threatening and there was a slight chance of rain in the forecast. Whatever Mother Nature chooses to treat us with, we have no say in the matter.

Normally, I let out the big overhead canopy first thing in the morning, especially if it is a sunny day, just to keep the RV cooler. If it is very windy and rainy, then the canopy stays in as either of these can damage or even destroy the overhead canopies which I found out to my cost. On two separate occasions, the canopy was destroyed, once by it filling with rain water and crashing down under the weight and the other with the wind tearing it up. I try to remember to always bring in the canopy if I plan on being away. By the way, they ain’t cheap to replace either…

I glanced at the clock to see that it was already 12:12 pm as the day slips on by. We have nothing planned and no transport anyway as Delores has borrowed the Jeep while her car is being repaired and is away for a few days. I worked on the blog and brought us up to date and then sat listening to an Audiobook to pass the time. That and dog walking and before I knew it, it was time to bring in the bird feeders.

I settled down to the evening meal for both me and the dogs although we ate different stuff. Not sure I would like dog food. Too dry and scrunchy for my liking…

I watched TV until almost midnight as I got into a good movie before going to bed.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Friday October 31, 2025

    November 6th, 2025

I slept well and awoke refreshed and ready to face the day. We had nothing special planned and no car to do it with anyway as Delores had borrowed mine. Hers needs some serious work to the engine. Mine just sits most of the time anyway.

We harnessed up and went out for that first walk of the day. It was cold out and I was glad of the jacket I had put on. I guess Fall is really here after another blazing hot summer. How long before I will stop wearing shorts and put on long pants, I wonder.

Today is the last day of the month as this year rushes to the end. Time really flies for me probably because I am almost 90 in a couple of months.

I sat and caught up with the blog and wondered what to do for the rest of the day. I had no transport as I mentioned earlier as Delores had my car. She has much more use for it than I do as her car is being repaired.

I worked on the blog and brought it up to date which luckily for me was only a couple of days. Anything longer and I would not remember what it was all about anyway. I glanced at the clock and it showed it to be almost 1:00 pm. I was all caught up blogwise and had already done the few chores that I needed to do and wondered what to do for the rest of the day. This is getting a more and more familiar pattern for my days unless I have an appointment of some sort. Apart from writing the blog and the occasional trip into town my days are very dull, very boring and very repetitious. Still, I am well used to them being that way and see no reason to change.

With nothing of any importance to do, I resorted to my good old standby and listened to an Audiobook for an hour or so until it was time to take the dogs out walking. We just wandered around as we usually do and returned to the RV to bring in the bird feeders and shut up the outside shop as we usually do as another day came to an end.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Thursday 10/30/2025

    November 5th, 2025

We got up around 9:00 am which seems to be our current wake up time nowadays unless I happen to have something going on in town and even then, if I have any control over the scheduling, I give myself plenty of time in the mornings.

We went out for the first walk of the day. There was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was shining brightly as we wandered around. There was a definite nip in the air and I was glad of the jacket I had put on. At 9:00 am when we went out, the temperature had dropped to 44 degrees which is a considerable drop. Needless to say, I was glad of the jacket.

We walked around and I stopped to talk to Josh who was filling propane tanks, one of which was mine. Then, we kept on wandering in no hurry to get anywhere in particular which is how most of our walks are. We returned to the RV and I found something for all of us to eat, although different, of course.

After breakfast, I sat and worked on the blog and wondered just what to get up to as housebound as I was with Delores borrowing my car. I had stocked up groceries and wine so should have enough to last until Delores comes back on Monday.

I did a few chores around the RV and then settled down to listen to an Audiobook until it was time to take the dogs out walking. Back in the RV, I was sitting on the couch when the dogs started barking and there was Peggy standing there. She made a fuss of the dogs and we sat down to chat for a bit although she couldn’t stay very long as she was busy packing and loading her car for yet another trip to their property.

After she left, we went out for the last walk of the day before bringing in the bird feeders and shutting up the outside shop for the day. Then it was back indoors for the evening meal all around and then watching TV until we went to bed around 11:30 pm as another day came to an end.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Wednesday 10/29/2025

    November 4th, 2025

I got up around the usual time which just lately has been around 9:00 am and took a shower to complete the waking up process. It was another beautiful sunny day but very blustery and windy. I decided not to bring out the awning because of the wind. Having already lost one awning on a windy day on a different RV, I was not about to take that chance.

We harnessed up and went out walking around the campgrounds and managed to cover a mile in doing so, a very good start to the day.

Back in the RV, I was having trouble with the thermostat and could not get it to shut off and decided to get the expert to work on it. I called James, our RV repair man who said he would be out later. In the meantime, the A/C was running non stop and it was pretty cool inside the RV. About a half hour later, James showed up and worked his magic on the thermostat and got it working again. I thanked him profusely and after paying his bill, James left to go to his next client.

I was having trouble with my phone scrolling continuously and didn’t know how to stop it so I hopped in the Jeep and made the trip to the ATT store located in the Clock Tower in Dripping Springs. There, the Tec showed me what to do when the phone starts to do that. I thanked him and drove back to Henly and the RV. At least, that trip and service was free.

I had thought about a Latte and decided against it and as I drove past Tractor Supply, quickly thought about anything I might need from that store. Deciding there was nothing, I continued back to Henly and the pups.

I received a very warm welcome when I unlocked the RV door and told the dogs we would go out walkies as soon as I had put away the groceries for which I got a lot of help from Mikey. I harnessed them up and out the door we went on our usual walk around the RV Park.

We stopped at the girls for a quick chat and then we walked around the park saying “Hi” to anyone else that we saw along the way. Back at the RV, I tied the dogs up outside as I had a couple of things to do including emptying the Jeep so that Delores could borrow it for the next few days as hers was in the shop.

I also drove into Dripping Springs to the HEB and stocked up on food and drink stuff knowing that I would be without transport. When I got back and after emptying the Jeep of my purchases, I made sure that the Jeep was in good shape for Delores. I had stopped at one of the garages in town and had them air up the tires. I had tried to do it myself but ran into all kinds of trouble plus it cost money to do it yourself. Instead of putting air into the tires, I was letting it out. Apparently, there is no more free air unless the attendant does it. It used to be that airing up tires was a piece of cake but nowadays, the equipment is quite a bit different plus, as I said already, it cost money to use the air machine.

The rest of the day was spent walking dogs and eventually bringing in the bird feeders as another day came to an end.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Tuesday10/28/2025

    November 3rd, 2025

The day started as it normally does with taking the dogs out walking. And as we usually do, we just wandered around going nowhere in particular or even walking very fast. The purpose of that first walk of the day is so the dogs can do their business and the success of the walk is judged solely on that factor. Of course, there is no magic switch and generally, we just keep on walking until at least one of them “goes”.

We managed to walk a mile on that first walk just wandering around the campground which was a very good start to the day for all three of us. Taking the dogs walking is also very beneficial for me as well.

When we got back, I fixed all three of us breakfast at least so we had something in our respective bellies and then settled down to play catch-up with the blog.

I had arranged with James, the RV Repair Man for him to come and take a look because I could not get something to work right and thought it needed repair. He took a look and then showed me how to set it up properly. I thanked him and gave him a $100 check for his troubles.

As the day wore on, I decided to go grocery shopping and after saying “Goodbye” to my little buddies, I hopped in the Jeep and made the drive into town and to the HEB store located there. I wandered around and spent my customary $150.00 stocking up for the few days when I will be without the Jeep while Delores borrows it.

I also stopped for a Latte but just lately, they are not tasting so good so maybe, my Latte days are coming to a close.

Back in the RV, I unloaded the groceries with lots of help from both dogs, especially Mikey. Summer is still learning the ropes on the grocery thing so only got in the way. I took the dogs out walking just around the campground and then, when we got back, I listened to an Audiobook for an hour or so.

My good friend Delores came over and we sat outside drinking beer and talking until it started to get dark. Delores went back to her RV and I took the dogs out one more time.

The rest of the evening was spent in the usual way of food all around and then watching television.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Monday 10/27/2025

    November 2nd, 2025

I lay in bed thinking about the past couple of days and how I managed to drink too much to the extent that I was physically out of control of my actions like walking and according to the girls, undressing. They tell me that they had to put me to bed although, I can’t remember any of it. I haven’t been that drunk in years and don’t plan on ever getting that way again. Needless to say, I never planned it this time either. Thank goodness that I had my two friends to help me in my hour of need although I blame them for making me drink so much. Yeah, right.

I got up and went through the usual morning ablutions before harnessing up the dogs to take them for the first walk of the day. We just wandered around stopping at the girls RV where I asked Peggy if she had seen my stick, which she hadn’t. Oh well, just gotta keep looking. We only covered less than a half mile on that first walk as Summer was not interested in distance, just the fresh smells.

Back in the RV, I fixed me some breakfast, a bowl of corn flakes, but for some reason, food doesn’t taste good anymore and I gave it to the dogs, I guess they don’t like corn flakes either as all they cleared up was the milk. So now the birds and the squirrels can eat it.

I watched as Sandy attacked her freshly washed doggy bed and threw it all over the place, jumping on it and growling like it was a wild animal. It was really funny. Mikey just looked at her and I could almost read his mind. Stupid girl, what is wrong with her, it was saying.

I thought about the day ahead and tried to think if there was anything important I should be doing as I need to do it today or tomorrow because my very good friend, Delores managed to blow up her car engine and is without transport. I told her she could borrow mine as it just sits there most of the time. She has the need for transportation for the rest of this week as she has some business that she needs to take care of.

I walked around the back of the RV intending to look into the very large storage bin that I have back there and lo and behold, found my stick leaning up against it, much to my relief as I feel much safer when I use it.

My afternoons are pretty consistent unless I happen to go shopping. Most of the time, I sit and listen to an Audiobook and that is interspersed with dog walking or visiting the Girls or Delores who are about the only true friends that are left here. I know several of the other campers enough to talk to and many more just to say “Hi” to but certainly not enough for any of them to put me to bed when I drink too much.

The day wore on until it was time to bring in the bird feeders after the last walk of the day and then adjourn indoors for supper for both the dogs and myself. Then, I watched television until almost midnight before going to bed as another day came to an end.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Sunday 10/26/2025

    November 1st, 2025

I got up around the usual time feeling a bit sore and stiff from the tumble I took in my drunken state a couple days ago. That plus the indignities of the girls undressing me and putting me to bed although they probably had a good laugh at my expense. Apparently, I was too drunk to enjoy the situation…

What bothers me about the whole thing is that I can’t remember any of it and not because of having a selective memory. See if I do that again…Yeah, right…Still, it did have it’s funny side. Now all I gotta do is try to remember which part was funny.

I took the dogs out walking and as usual, we just wandered around the Park going nowhere in particular or very fast. Back at the RV, I fixed them both a breakfast plate which they gobbled down especially Summer. She went after the food like there was no tomorrow and licked her plate clean.

Then I settled down to play catch up with the blog as I was a couple of days behind which is like a death sentence for the blog as my aged brain doesn’t remember very far back. That is my excuse anyway as it couldn’t possibly be not wanting to write about my drunken episode with the girls and for them to bare my all when they put me to bed. Actually, there is not much to see in an 89 year old going on 90 anyway..

With the blog all caught up, I looked around for something else to get up to and did not find much of anything important, Consequently, I resorted to my old favorite of listening to an Audiobook until it was time for the evening walk followed by the evening meal for all of us.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday 10/25/2025

    October 31st, 2025

I awoke around the usual time and lay in bed thinking about the day ahead. I crawled out and after the usual matutinal ablutions, I was wide awake and ready to face the day. We had nothing planned as I was still trying to get over the partying I had done the night before although to be truthful, I couldn’t remember much about it. According to the girls I drank so much wine that I fell over and they had to help me back to my RV, undress me and put me to bed. I have to take their word for it as I can’t remember a darn thing. I think I suffer from selective memory syndrome…

I took the dogs out walking and as we usually do, we just wandered around with Mikey leading the way and Sandy following up the rear dragging her feet as much as possible. Unless she is in a walking mood which is not very often, she fights the leash the whole way and consequently, I have to drag her to get her started and of course, she stops at every opportunity.

I decided to go grocery shopping and said goodbye to the dogs and hopped in the Jeep and drove into the HEB in town where I picked up a few items of food and a lot of items of the tiny bottles of wine. I stopped for a Latte to drink on the way home and headed back to the Park and the RV.

The dogs helped to unload the groceries and then I took them out walking in the Park. We wandered around and I noticed that the weather had cooled down a little. Maybe Fall is really here.

The rest of the day was spent in the usual way.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Thursday 10/23/2025

    October 30th, 2025

Again, I woke up late and it was almost 10:00 am before I crawled out of bed. That is two mornings in a row that I have woken up really late. Not that it matters much but even so, half the day is wasted by my laziness.

I hustled around and harnessed up the dogs and out we went for that all important first walk. I am surprised that the dogs were able to “hold it” as long as they did especially Summer who is still trying to adjust to our ways. Later, I came across a couple of small piles of doggy poop so obviously she had not held it. Gotta keep working on it. I have a pee-pad on the floor and she uses that…sometimes.

I fixed myself breakfast and noticed that Summer was giving me “the look” so I fixed both her and Mikey, a plate of food which both of them devoured, For such a little girl, she sure can eat…

I sat and worked on the blog as Peggy pulled up so I went out to visit for a bit before she left to go back to her RV. When I glanced at the time, it said it was 12:30 pm already as the day flashed on by.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Wednesday 10/22/2025

    October 29th, 2025

I was up two or three times through the night for bathroom use and also to adjust the A/C system to heat as it got cold indoors overnight and I forgot to make the adjustment before going to bed. Consequently, I slept soundly through almost 10:00 am before crawling out of bed. I glanced at the clock and when I saw the time, was very surprised at the fact I had managed to actually sleep so late.

There was no sign of Summer as she had her own hidey hole. I eventually found her by the armchair. Mikey, of course, was on the bed and only made an effort to get up because I did.

The cold water on the face finished waking me up and I threw on some clothes and out the door we went. Summer was a bit bewildered by it all but took her lead from Mikey as he showed her the ropes. We wandered around the campground but as we were so late, didn’t get to see any other dogs or their helpers.

Back in the RV, I made the usual cereal and coffee for my breakfast and noted that the dogs had hard food in their bowls on the floor ready for them to eat it if they so desired. Then I sat down in front of the computer and finished yesterday’s blog and started on today. After the last busy couple of days, we have no plans for today except maybe a trip to the Grocery Store for which the dogs will stay behind. This does not include the mandatory walkies as they will happen regardless unless if it is raining and even then, they have to happen sooner or later.

Because I got up so late, the day flew by and I finished writing as much as I could as the clock said it was a little after two o’clock. Then I wondered what to do for the rest of the day.

We spent the rest of it in the usual way either listening to an Audiobook or out walking.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Monday 10/20/2025

    October 28th, 2025

I had a funny old night as I guess a part of me was worrying about our new addition, Summer. As I said in my previous blog, after I placed Summer on the bed, she immediately got down on the floor and curled up to where she would spend the rest of the night. I had placed a doggy basket on the floor for her and she had crawled into it and seemed very content. I am quite sure that her doggy mind was trying to figure out what had happened to her life as it was now turned upside down. She now had a new “Dad” plus a bossy male dog to put up with. Still, that is probably better than before when she had to put up with maybe a 10 year old kid. It’s going to take a while but with lots of patience we will get her more used to our way of life.

It was a quiet day as we did the usual things, feeding the birds, dog walking several times during the day and taking care of whatever came up. When we went out dog walking, the other campers that saw her all said nice things about us adapting another puppy. Most of them knew Sandy anyway and knew of our loss.

We spent a part of the afternoon listening to an Audiobook and then dog walking trying to get used to the new puppy and her to us. She definitely has a mind of her own when we are out walking. We could be moving along and all of a sudden, she will stop and I have a really hard time getting her to budge. We got lots of time and I am sure, eventually she will get used to us. Nothing like a challenge…

Later in the afternoon, I took the dogs over to Delores and we sat outside drinking a beer while she made a fuss of both of them.. If the need ever arises, Delores baby sits the dogs so it is important that they all get to know each other. We sat and chatted for a while and it was dark when we eventually left to go back to the RV.

There, I tied the dogs up to the outside table and turned the outside lights on so that I could bring in the bird feeders. With everything put away for one more day, we adjourned back inside the RV where I gave them their evening meal while finding something for me to eat.

Then we watched a movie before going to bed. As usual, Summer slept on the floor while Mikey joined me on top of the bed as another day came to an end.

Living in an RV Henly RV Park
    Tuesday 10/21/2025

I awoke at the usual time which nowadays is around 9:00 am. It doesn’t matter that we get up late as most of the time, we have nothing going on that warrants getting up early and if ever we do need to, I set the alarm clock. After the cold water routine and throwing on some clothes, I harnessed up the dogs and out the door we went. Mikey knows the drill and hopped on down the steps. Summer had to think about and I gave her a gentle tug to get her going.

We wandered around the park but only saw one other camper with his dog. We waved to each other with both of us making sure to go in the opposite direction. It was an interesting walk as Mikey lead the way and went charging off. Summer was not quite sure and a couple of time just dug her toes in to stop the forward momentum. It took some coaxing from me and a few gentle pulls on the leash to get her going again. It is definitely a learning process for her but we got lots of time.

We had a Vet’s appointment for her in the afternoon at 3:00 pm and I was looking forward to that to find out if she is in good health or needs treating for anything. Hopefully not although she will get whatever it takes if needed.

We wandered around the park not in any hurry which is just as well as Summer has this habit of stopping and just looking around. That means that Mikey and I also have to stop until she is ready to get moving again. I usually have to give a few gentle tugs on her leash to get that message to her.

I loaded both dogs in the car with Mikey insisting that my lap was off limits to anyone else except him. I did get Summer to sit in the empty seat which was a first.

At the Vets, Mikey and I sat and waited as the Vet team did whatever they do to Summer with one or the other coming out and asking questions. Eventually, they brought her back and gave me a run down on her health which was pretty good with nothing major to worry about. They also gave me a bag with different treatments that I need to give her. I gladly paid the $550.00 bill which was $200.00 cheaper than the last one one on Sandy less than two weeks ago.

We went on a short walk outside of the Vets office before hopping in the car for the drive home with Mikey on my lap and Summer on the passenger seat. Summer is a funny little thing and definitely has a mind of her own and if she doesn’t want to do something or go somewhere, she just parks herself and I have to cajole her to get moving. Maybe, when she and Mikey get better acquainted she will take her lead from him.

Back home in the RV, they both made a bee line to their hidey holes and zonked off, worn out by all of the excitement.

The rest of the day was spent sitting around and going out for the final walk of the day before adjourning back to the RV for the evening’s meal and entertainment. I was sitting outside when my good friend Delores popped her head over the railing and announced that she had beer. That was my signal for me to invite her in and make room on the other chair for her.

We sat and drank the beer, chatting about the day. Delores had Summer on her lap the whole time and Summer was very content with the arrangement. Mikey, of course, was on my lap. We sat and chatted and drank our beers and had a wonderful evening. It’s so good to have friends like her and of course, the girls.

Back in the RV, I watched TV for a bit before retiring for the night.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Sunday 10/19/2025

    October 27th, 2025

I had a funny old nights sleep awakening a couple of times for no apparent reason. I managed to drop back off so was no worse for lack of it. I got up at the usual time and took a quick shower, harnessed up Mikey and out the door we went. We wandered around as we usually do not going anywhere in particular and taking our time. Mikey had a million smells that he had to check out while I waited patiently to continue walking. Maybe, I need to learn how to smell things and join him. Wait a minute, that would mean getting down on my hands and knees so forget that idea…

I fixed a bowl of corn flakes for breakfast along with that all important coffee. The corn flakes, I could do without but some sort of a morning drink, either tea or coffee is very important. I am not a big eater and can get by with the bare minimum of food. It’s not like I need boundless amounts of energy with my current lifestyle.

I was expecting a family to bring a dog by that we had been communicating about and sure enough, close to the allotted time they pulled up outside of the meeting place. They were a family which consisted of a Mother, Father and a small son of about five or six years old. We had agreed to meet at the Whole Foods Store at Bee Caves shopping Mall.

The dogs name is Summer and she is a Shit Tzu of about 8 years old.She is the cutest little thing and Mikey didn’t know what to make of her. They had brought all of her”stuff” which I put in the Jeep and then came back and took possession of my new to me, dog. I thanked them profusely and drove back to Dripping Springs with my new dog sitting on the floor (her choice) and Mikey on my lap. The trip home was quick and easy and nothing special happened.

Back at the RV, I decided to go out for a walk so that Summer could get used to our routines. It was interesting watching the two dogs as they tried to work out an understanding. At one point, Mikey snapped at Summer and I had to reprimand him. I tried to encourage her to get on my lap but I guess it is not something she is used to. We need to work on that.

We wandered around and I introduced Summer to The Girls and Delores and anyone else we ran into. Josh drove by and pulled up to make a fuss of her. I’m sure it was a lot for the little dog to take in. Incidentally, she is a stubborn little girl and on our walks, if she doesn’t like the way we are going, she digs in and refuses to budge until we change direction.

Later that evening, I wandered over to my friend Dolores’s RV and we sat drinking a couple of beers and chatting about everything. When it was time for me to go back to my RV, I realized that I still had to bring in the bird feeders and in order to be able to see what I was doing, I had to turn on the outside lights and bring in the overhead canopy.

With everything put away, I adjourned back indoors and watched a horror movie on the TV for the rest of the evening all the time keeping an eye on our new little buddy who slept most of the time.

We went to bed and as usual, Mikey was the first one in it. I tried to get Summer to get on the bed and ended up physically lifting her onto it. As soon as I let her go, she found a way off the bed onto the floor and found herself a hidey hole. That is where she spent the rest of the night. I guess she is not used to sleeping on a bed.

And so ended our first day with our new furry friend.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday 10/18/2025

    October 25th, 2025

I got up after a good night’s sleep and harnessed up Mikey for us to take that first walk of the day. As usual, we wandered around going nowhere in particular saying “Good Morning” to the couple of other people that we saw. Then, it was back to the RV for breakfast and the all important coffee. I made the mistake of doubling the sugar and instead of two small packs, I added four of them. Boy, was that coffee sweet. I forced it down as I was too lazy to make a fresh cup.

I spent time working on the blog and bringing it up to date and looked around for something else to get up to.

Not finding anything much to do, I resorted to the old faithful of taking Mikey for a walk. We wandered around the park not going anywhere in particular or with any purpose in mind except to keep moving. We walked out to the exit gate and I looked down the hill which today, seemed awful steep and long so we went the other way towards the main entrance and turned back into the park. So much for a longer walk!

I decided to go grocery shopping at the HEB located in town and after saying goodbye to Mikey who I think, sensed that I was going out as he sat on the back of the chair just giving me,”the look”. I told him that I would take him out when we got back and jumped in the Jeep

I drove to the HEB located in Dripping Springs and just wandered around. I had a list of the items I knew I needed but that was just for starters as other stuff would find it’s way into my cart. As usual, my bill was way over $100.00. The price of food must be at an all time high! I stopped at Starbucks on the way home for a Latte as I usually do.

Back at the RV, Mikey helped to unload the groceries as he always does sniffing each package to give his seal of approval. With everything put away, I looked around for something else to get up to and finding nothing, resorted to the old faithful of listening to an Audiobook.

The rest of the day slipped on by until it was time for the evening walk. We wandered around the park in no hurry and also going nowhere and eventually, ended back up at the RV. There, I brought in the bird feeders and with Mikey’s help, put them away as another day came to an end.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Friday 10/17/2025

    October 24th, 2025

Another day another dollar as the old saying goes only in our case, it should just read. welcome to another day. I retired from actual work when I was sixty eight and haven’t looked back since. For me, the time was right after a typical lifetime of working in the Construction Industry ending my working life as a Construction Superintendent, the head honcho. I was sixteen when I first started working as a Bricklayer’s Apprentice back in the old country, England. I gotta say that I don’t miss working one little bit.

Nowadays, about the hardest thing I do is get out of bed in the mornings although, when I am up and about, I try to stay busy at least a part of the time which keeps my body moving. I often spend the rest of the time listening to an Audiobook or the occasional shopping in town. What a life…

I brought out the bird feeders and as I mentioned earlier, did not have to refill any of them as the birds are no longer coming around. I’m lucky if I get any birds at all as I guess that many of them have moved on to their wintering spots wherever that may be. Still, we will keep putting out the feeders for the few that are still visiting.

We walked around the park in the hope that Mikey will do his business but at least, we both got some exercise.

Back in the RV, I debated about going into town and then remembered that I needed to visit my hearing doctors office to give Lisa my hearing aids that both needed some work. I hopped in the Jeep after saying goodbye to Mikey and discovered that I had a problem with the Jeep’s instrument panel as things were not working. I made the drive to the Auto repair shop and they worked on the car enough that it was driveable so I continued on to the Doctors office and handed the hearing aids over to Lisa who works on these things.

I drove back to the Park and the rest of the day was spent in doing the few regular chores that came up, and a lot of sitting around listening to an Audiobook.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Thursday 10/16/2025

    October 23rd, 2025

I had a restless nights sleep awakening on 2-3 different occasions for no particular reason. I lay there a while before managing to drop back off again. I awoke around the usual time and crawled out of bed walking around the RV and raising all of the blinds except the ones on the sun side. I have to wait until later this afternoon as the sun moves around before I can raise those and pull down the others. It all helps to keep the RV cool, that and the two A/C units gong full blast.

We harnessed up and went out for the all important first walk of the day. After “holding it” all night long, the look on Mikey’s face when he finally pees is something to behold. I guess I probably have the same look and I can go whenever I have to and do not have to rely on someone taking me walking. What makes it worse for the dogs is that if they have reached the point of “gotta go” and even though they may have been “holding” it for hours. if they pee in the house, they are a “bad dog”. Humans!

The day was extremely quiet with not much of anything going on. No visiting, no shopping no nothing. We did a lot of sitting around and listening to an Audiobook plus a couple of walkabouts to help pass the time. I do belive that it is cooling down even if by only a couple of degrees. Every little bit helps.

We went out for the evenings walk around the campground and stopped at Peggy’s house just to chat a bit. BJ came home while I was there from her long day driving school bus and I took that as a signal to leave which we did, continuing with our walk. Sure gonna miss those ladies…

The rest of the evening was spent in the usual way with the evening meal and then TV until midnight.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Wednesday 10/15/2025

    October 22nd, 2025

I slept very well only stirring to the calls of Nature which was at least twice through the night. Can’t “hold it” like I did as a younger man…I am in the habit of getting up around 9:00 am and even without looking at the clock, I know that it is approaching that time because of the position of the sun as it shines through the blinds in the morning. Again, we have nothing planned and will just see what develops as the day progresses.

I harnessed up Mikey and we went out walking as we always do. The morning walk is so that Mikey can pee after the long night and so that I can get the blood flowing to my old bones. I can almost see the look of relief on Mikey’s face as he goes and I know exactly what he is feeling.

When we got back, I brought out the bird feeders though, in truth, there are not many birds to feed nowadays. I guess a lot of them have flown off to warmer climes although, with our current temperatures so hot, it might have been a bit confusing for them. I don’t know if this summer is a forerunner of things to come as the Earth slowly heats up.

I fixed a bacon sandwich for breakfast and offered some to Mikey but again, he turned his nose up at the food. Hopefully, he will eat it later. As usual, the coffee hit the spot for me, not Mikey.. Then, it was time to work on the blog. Luckily, I was up to date and only had to finish and post yesterday and then start on today.

We sat around either listening to an Audiobook or just doing a whole lot of nothing which is something I am getting very good at. As the day progressed, I brought in the bird feeders and then me and Mikey sat on the outside couch as it got dark. It was kind of peaceful just sitting there and everything quiet around us.

Eventually, we went back inside for the evening meal and then watched television until it was bedtime.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Monday 10/13/2025

    October 21st, 2025

We awoke to another bright, sunny and probably hot summers day just like yesterday and the past couple of months previously. This has been one of the hottest and longest summers on record and most of the people, even those born and raised in the Texas heat, are ready for it to be over. Of course, however the weather turns in the future, we will complain about it. Us Hoomans are never satisfied.

After the usual matutinal ablutions (cold water on the face), which woke me up and throwing on shorts and Tee shirt, I was ready to take Mikey walking around the park. We passed a couple of people with dogs all going in the opposite direction and hollered out the usual morning greeting to them and they responded in kind.

The park was quiet with not much activity as it usually is as we wandered around. Right now, it is half empty or depending on your point of view, half full as the travelling season comes to an end. Now, the ones still on the road are probably full timers.

Back in the RV, I fixed myself breakfast after bringing out the bird feeders and the all important coffee and sat down in front of the computer to play catch up with the blog. I was only one day behind but even that required a lot of brain wracking to remember what happened yesterday. It’s hell growing old but considering the alternative…

When I made breakfast, I discovered that I was down to my last coffee pod so without further ado, I drove to Tractor Supply, my nearest store and purchased some and then drove straight back to the park. Can’t be without coffee!

The rest of the day was spent in the usual way listening to an Audiobook and walking Mikey. I did spend a lot of time on the computer looking for another small dog and found a couple that I might be interested in.

Living in an RV Henly RV Park Tuesday 10/14/2025

I slept very well as did Mikey and the couple of times I got up for the call of Nature, he didn’t even move. I guess he is used to the routine by now. Eventually, I crawled out of bed and went through the cold water on my face to finish waking up.

First thing after throwing on clean clothes was to empty the washing machine as it had done a load yesterday with a little help from me. I spread it out on the bed to finish drying as it felt a little damp and then I can fold it and put it away.

I harnessed up Mikey and he was ready and raring to go so I hastily put on my shoes and out the door we went. We wandered around and didn’t see anybody which is no surprise as usually, I am the last person out dog walking and all of the others are out and about much earlier than we are. I use age as an excuse for not getting out early and the truth is that I enjoy laying around in bed when I don’t have to get up. Kinda makes up for a lifetime of getting up early to be at work on time.

Back in the RV, after a breakfast shared with Mikey, I sat down in front of the computer and worked on the blog bringing us up to date. As far as I know, I have no plans for today but that can change in an instant.

As it turned out, it was a slow quiet day and we did a lot of sitting around listening to an Audiobook and taking Mikey out walking.

  • Living in an RV, Henly RV Park Sunday, 10/12/2025

    October 20th, 2025

I crawled out of bed and glanced at the clock which showed it was 9:00 am, my normal time to get up. However, I was too late for breakfast with the gang which included Daniel and Malinda. They had saved me some food and Delores brought it to my RV.

I took Mikey out walking and we wandered around the Park before returning to the RV. Both Daniel and Malinda stopped to say their goodbyes as they left the park. It was good to see them and Remington again.

I sat down in front of the computer and played catch up with the last three days of the blog which somehow, I had fallen behind and then considered what I had to do today that was important. Nothing came to mind and my friends had all returned to what they normally do and all of the visiting and eating/drinking was done for a while. As I already said.” it was good to see Daniel and Malinda again”.

I decided to continue my hunt for another dog so that both Mikey and I would have a new companion. I looked up one of the sites online and got directions and decided to drive there and see what they might have. It was almost 40 miles one way and I was travelling a totally different route than I had ever done before but I made good time and pulled into the parking lot.

I signed in and talked to the three ladies at the front desk and they told me they did not have any small dogs. I decided to look around anyway but did not find even one “small” big dog. I chatted to the people behind the desk and they took my information promising to let me know if any new small dogs come in.

I jumped in the car and made the long drive home and as I was starting from San Marcos, decided to use the Interstate as it was a lot quicker. Eventually, I arrived back at the RV and made a big fuss of Mikey to show him how happy I was to be back home with him. We harnessed up after he finally calmed down, and went out walking the park but it was well over 90 degrees and we did not spend too much time outside.

I got a call from the girls telling me to ,”Come on over” so I said goodbye to Mikey and wandered the short distance to the girls RV where we sat outside drinking beer and wine. Delores was already over there enjoying the company and the drinks.

We sat around for an hour or so and by then, it had gotten dark and I had to put on the outside lights so I could see to bring in the bird feeders. With everything put away and it already dark out, I went back indoors of the RV and sat and watched television until almost 1:00 am. before going to bed.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday 10/11/2025

    October 18th, 2025

I got up at the usual time and first thing after the cold water on the face routine was to take Mikey out for his first walk of the day. We wandered around and when we got back, he helped me to bring out the bird feeders. It must be that there are not many birds visiting as again, I did not have to refill any of the feeders.

I wandered over to the Commons where the whole gang were assembled for breakfast as Daniel and Malinda had stayed overnight. Later that evening, we all re-assembled for an evening meal together which the Girls along with Delores had cooked. It was good to see both Daniel and Malinda and spend time with them.

I went into town and did some grocery shopping as we were running low on essentials. I thought about taking Mikey but decided against it as it was still way to hot to leave him in the Jeep. So, I said goodbye to him and went and did my small amount of shopping.

When we got back, he was so excited and jumped all over me. I made a big fuss of him and we went out walking around the park so he could burn off some of his pent up energy.

We all assembled at the Commons for an evening meal as Daniel and Malinda were still in town which the Girls and Delores supplied. It was a fun time to be with all of my current friends all in the same place. The evening ended and we all made our way back to our individual RV’s.
