I had a funny old night as I guess a part of me was worrying about our new addition, Summer. As I said in my previous blog, after I placed Summer on the bed, she immediately got down on the floor and curled up to where she would spend the rest of the night. I had placed a doggy basket on the floor for her and she had crawled into it and seemed very content. I am quite sure that her doggy mind was trying to figure out what had happened to her life as it was now turned upside down. She now had a new “Dad” plus a bossy male dog to put up with. Still, that is probably better than before when she had to put up with maybe a 10 year old kid. It’s going to take a while but with lots of patience we will get her more used to our way of life.
It was a quiet day as we did the usual things, feeding the birds, dog walking several times during the day and taking care of whatever came up. When we went out dog walking, the other campers that saw her all said nice things about us adapting another puppy. Most of them knew Sandy anyway and knew of our loss.
We spent a part of the afternoon listening to an Audiobook and then dog walking trying to get used to the new puppy and her to us. She definitely has a mind of her own when we are out walking. We could be moving along and all of a sudden, she will stop and I have a really hard time getting her to budge. We got lots of time and I am sure, eventually she will get used to us. Nothing like a challenge…
Later in the afternoon, I took the dogs over to Delores and we sat outside drinking a beer while she made a fuss of both of them.. If the need ever arises, Delores baby sits the dogs so it is important that they all get to know each other. We sat and chatted for a while and it was dark when we eventually left to go back to the RV.
There, I tied the dogs up to the outside table and turned the outside lights on so that I could bring in the bird feeders. With everything put away for one more day, we adjourned back inside the RV where I gave them their evening meal while finding something for me to eat.
Then we watched a movie before going to bed. As usual, Summer slept on the floor while Mikey joined me on top of the bed as another day came to an end.
Living in an RV Henly RV Park
Tuesday 10/21/2025
I awoke at the usual time which nowadays is around 9:00 am. It doesn’t matter that we get up late as most of the time, we have nothing going on that warrants getting up early and if ever we do need to, I set the alarm clock. After the cold water routine and throwing on some clothes, I harnessed up the dogs and out the door we went. Mikey knows the drill and hopped on down the steps. Summer had to think about and I gave her a gentle tug to get her going.
We wandered around the park but only saw one other camper with his dog. We waved to each other with both of us making sure to go in the opposite direction. It was an interesting walk as Mikey lead the way and went charging off. Summer was not quite sure and a couple of time just dug her toes in to stop the forward momentum. It took some coaxing from me and a few gentle pulls on the leash to get her going again. It is definitely a learning process for her but we got lots of time.
We had a Vet’s appointment for her in the afternoon at 3:00 pm and I was looking forward to that to find out if she is in good health or needs treating for anything. Hopefully not although she will get whatever it takes if needed.
We wandered around the park not in any hurry which is just as well as Summer has this habit of stopping and just looking around. That means that Mikey and I also have to stop until she is ready to get moving again. I usually have to give a few gentle tugs on her leash to get that message to her.
I loaded both dogs in the car with Mikey insisting that my lap was off limits to anyone else except him. I did get Summer to sit in the empty seat which was a first.
At the Vets, Mikey and I sat and waited as the Vet team did whatever they do to Summer with one or the other coming out and asking questions. Eventually, they brought her back and gave me a run down on her health which was pretty good with nothing major to worry about. They also gave me a bag with different treatments that I need to give her. I gladly paid the $550.00 bill which was $200.00 cheaper than the last one one on Sandy less than two weeks ago.
We went on a short walk outside of the Vets office before hopping in the car for the drive home with Mikey on my lap and Summer on the passenger seat. Summer is a funny little thing and definitely has a mind of her own and if she doesn’t want to do something or go somewhere, she just parks herself and I have to cajole her to get moving. Maybe, when she and Mikey get better acquainted she will take her lead from him.
Back home in the RV, they both made a bee line to their hidey holes and zonked off, worn out by all of the excitement.
The rest of the day was spent sitting around and going out for the final walk of the day before adjourning back to the RV for the evening’s meal and entertainment. I was sitting outside when my good friend Delores popped her head over the railing and announced that she had beer. That was my signal for me to invite her in and make room on the other chair for her.
We sat and drank the beer, chatting about the day. Delores had Summer on her lap the whole time and Summer was very content with the arrangement. Mikey, of course, was on my lap. We sat and chatted and drank our beers and had a wonderful evening. It’s so good to have friends like her and of course, the girls.
Back in the RV, I watched TV for a bit before retiring for the night.
