Living In An RV

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Friday 10/10/2025

    October 17th, 2025

Another day rolled around and as I had no plans, was going to be just like the many that preceded it. I thought about going into town grocery shopping and decided that would be a good idea for later in the day.

I harnessed up Mikey and we went out walking after bringing out the bird feeders. It appears that not only have many of the birds disappeared but so has my friendly little squirrel. We wandered around and watched as the bigger dogs raced around in the dog run as their owners stood and chatted amongst themselves. That is the trouble with using that dog run is that the owners don’t get any exercise.

Mikey and wandered around our customary half mile before returning back to the RV for breakfast. Well, I had the breakfast as Mikey turned his nose up at the food. Hopefully, he will eat later.

I thought about the day ahead wondering if there was anything specific I needed to do. I knew that Daniel and Malinda were going to visit for the weekend and I looked forward to seeing them again.

The afternoon passed and I took Mikey out for his evening walk and then told him I would be back. I then wandered over to the Commons where both Daniel and Malinda had arrived. It was good to see them again as we all sat down for a delicious meal that the girls and Delores had prepared.

We spent the rest of the evening talking with them and eventually, I went back to the RV. I took Mikey out for a quick walk about and then he helped me to bring in the bird feeders as we belatedly, shut up the outside shop for the day.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Thursday 10/09/2025

    October 16th, 2025

I had a good nights sleep and awoke ready to get up and at ’em as the saying goes. We harnessed up and wandered around the park and again, the only other dog we saw was Murphy who was being led by Noel and heading for the dog park.

We covered our usual half mile and returned to the RV for breakfast. I had the breakfast and Mikey turned his nose up at the small piece of bacon I offered him. Probably that’s just his way of showing that he didn’t like my choice and not him getting sick again. He is not acting sick so hopefully, it is the former.

I sat and worked on the blog and brought us up to date thinking about the upcoming party that the girls are throwing as Daniel and Malinda are going to visit over the weekend.

Mikey and I went out for another walk and just wandered around before returning to the RV where we sat and listened to an Audiobook for the rest of the afternoon. We went out for the final walk of the day and then brought in the bird feeders as another day came to a close.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Wednesday 10/08/2025

    October 15th, 2025

I slept very well and was reluctant to get out of bed it was so warm and cuddly. I glanced at the other pillow and Mikey was still fast asleep so I curled up and just lay there. Eventually, I crawled out and went through the usual morning ablutions to finish waking up. The minute I got up, Mikey, who gave every appearance of being asleep, was wide awake and ready to go.

I did the usual cold water routine and threw on some clothes and we harnessed up and walked out the door. It was another beautiful morning with the sun already high in the sky and every indication of being another hot day. I brought out the bird feeders and hung them in their appropriate places and then Mikey and I went walking around the park.

We saw Noel with his dog, Murphy, but they were walking away from us so we didn’t have to worry about any confrontations. They were the only moving things we saw as the park was nice and quiet. Back at the RV, I fixed breakfast and even offered Mikey some but he turned his nose up at the food. He doesn’t normally eat in the mornings but I still need to keep an eye on him, just in case.

I decided to go grocery shopping and after saying goodbye to Mikey, made the short drive into town to the HEB located there. I wandered around and kept throwing things in the cart before finally reaching the end of the circuit and checking out. I still managed to spend $160.00 with just the few items I had bought. I stopped at Starbucks on the way home and bought a Latte as I usually do although, just lately, they have not been tasting very good.

Back at the RV, Mikey was very pleased to see me and gave me all kinds of help unloading the groceries. He checked each bag to make sure it was OK as I went ahead and unloaded them and put the stuff away.

We went out walking around the park but did not run into any other dog walkers. When we got back, we sat outside with me listening to an Audiobook and Mikey fast asleep on my lap.

The rest of the evening was spent in the usual fashion. Mikey ate his food which for me, was the high spot of the evening.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Tuesday 10/07/2025

    October 14th, 2025

I got up at the usual time which is now around 8:30 am. Mikey jumped out along with me having some energy after eating all of his food last evening. Hopefully, he is feeling better.

I took a shower and put on a set of clean clothes and was ready to face the day. I harnessed up Mikey and we went out for that all important first walk just wandering around the Park. My next door neighbor has two dogs one of which is huge. The other is about Mikey’s size and they went out walking the same time as us but in the opposite direction, thank goodness. One confrontation less to handle.

Back at the RV, I fixed myself corn flakes and coffee which served as breakfast for me. I couldn’t eat all of the food and left my bowl on the floor for Mikey to clear up which, so far, has not happened. He did eat all of last evening’s meal so maybe, just maybe, he is feeling better.

The clock showed it was 3:00 o’clock as the day slipped on by rather slowly which is a good thing. I turned my attention to the blog and spent some time on the management side of it and of course, bringing it up to date.

I decided to go into town to go grocery shopping and saying goodbye to Mikey, hopped in the Jeep for the short drive to HEB. As I usually do, I had a list of the things that I knew I needed but of course, there were all of those other things that somehow ended up in my cart.

I checked out and made the drive home stopping for a Latte along the way. I ordered it with my customary two sugars but when I took that first sip, the sugar was missing. So, I rejoined the line to the window and explained the problem and handed over the drink for them to put the sugars in and then drove back to Henly.

Mikey met me at the door demanding to go out walking and after putting the groceries away, we harnessed up and wandered around the park for a while before returning to the RV for me to listen to an Audiobook.

The rest of the day was spent as they usually are in walking, bringing in the bird feeders and then finally the evening meal and television.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Monday 10/06/2025

    October 13th, 2025

For a change, I got up at a reasonable hour and after the cold water on the face routine and throwing on some clothes, was ready to go outside and face the day. We had nothing special planned and we will just play it by ear as the saying goes. I wonder how that saying came about as I don’t see the ear connection.

Mikey and I went out walking around the Park. It had all the makings of being another super hot day and as usual, we tried to walk in the shade as much as possible. We saw one neighbor who has one giant dog and one small one and as we both usually do, we steered away from each other walking in opposite directions.

Back in the RV, I fixed me a bacon sandwich but did not cook the bacon long enough and threw most of it away. I’ll know better next time. I ended up making do with just the coffee as even Mikey turned his nose up at the bacon.

I thought about the day ahead and wondered if I should go into town to go grocery shopping. The jury is still out on that.

I brought the blog up to date which wasn’t hard as nothing special or different had happened. I had nothing else planned for the rest of the day which was spent either listening to an Audiobook, walking Mikey or just sitting around.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday 10/04/2025

    October 11th, 2025

I slept well and awoke ready to get up at some unearthly hour. It was still dark out so I quickly rolled over and dropped back of to sleep. I had no reason to get up early and Mikey is used to our routine. When we did crawl out, it was daylight and in my book, a much more respectable hour of around 9:00 am.

I threw on some clothes after the cold water treatment finished the waking up process and we went out walking around the park. It was quiet out and we didn’t see any other dog walkers. We did see some people walkers though. It was already warming up and today is going to be another scorcher.

I worked on yesterday’s blog and completed it before starting on today although, so far, not much to report. I sat there thinking about the day ahead and wondered what we could get up to just to stay amused.

I decided to go into town grocery shopping and after saying goodbye to Mikey, I hopped in the Jeep for the 10 mile trip and stopped at the HEB store where I wandered around in my usual way. I had a list but a few extra things found their way into my cart. The real reason for the shopping trip was to replenish my supply of the tiny little bottles of wine that I like to drink.

Back at the RV, I was sitting outside with Mikey and I spotted Peggy hobbling towards my RV. She came just to visit and then shortly after, Delores showed up. We moved from the deck to the outside table as there was more room and sat there drinking wine and/or beer. I provided the wine and Delores the beer. Great arrangement. Between the three of us, Peggy and I finished sixteen of the tiny bottles and Delores finished three cans of beer. Needless to say, we were a very happy group of campers when Delores walked Peggy back to her RV. It was a great way to spend the afternoon and I am so lucky to have such good friends even if they do contribute to my bad drinking habits.

With the girls gone, Mikey and I sat outside enjoying the cool breeze before bringing in the bird feeders as another day came to an end.

Living in an RV Henly RV Park Sunday 10/05/2025

I awoke several times during the night for no obvious reason although the call of Nature accounted for a couple of them. When I did finally awake, it was almost 10:00 am. Mikey had hardly stirred either so I guess we were both tired. I know that he has not been feeling good which probably accounts for his tiredness. I was hoping that he would be feeling better today but this did not prove to be the case as he was still not eating. It looks like another trip to the Vet is in our future maybe on Monday.

We went out walking as we always do at this hour of the morning. Mikey does not have any mobility problems but quite obviously is not feeling well. We wandered around but because of our late start, it was already hot out so we stuck to the shady area under the trees. We did not see any other dogs getting their exercise. As we were late, they had probably been and gone already.

Back in the RV, I fixed myself breakfast and offered some to Mikey hoping that he would eat something but alas, this was not the case and he just was not interested. My own breakfast was OK and as usual, the coffee was good.

I worked on the blog and brought us up to date and glanced at the clock only to discover that it was already 1:00 pm. I have no idea where the morning had gone but the late start accounts for a lot of it.

I worked on the blog finishing yesterday and started on today although not much to write about as far as today goes. Come to that, that applies to most of the days. We harnessed up and went out for another walk which is what we always do if the day is going slow.I thought about going into town but had no particular reason to make the trip and decided against it.

The rest of the day was spent listening to an Audiobook. I brought in the bird feeders thinking that I had not seen very many birds these past few days. Maybe they have already moved on to their wintering grounds.

We went out for one more walk about and then shut up shop and moved indoors for the usual evening meal and television.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Friday 10/03/2025

    October 10th, 2025

Mikey was very restless when we awoke and went into the living area before I even got up. This is most unusual for him as he waits for me to get up first most of the time. I opened the sliding glass doors so he could go out on the deck and sit while I got dressed.

We went walking around the park and it had to be the slowest walk ever. Mikey was not interested in walking but was eating every blade of grass he could find. Then he would upchuck and start all over again with the grass eating. His tummy must be really upset and he was not acting like his normal self.

We wandered around for more than a half hour with Mikey doing the grass thing and me just standing around. Finally, he had enough grass and we went back to the RV. It is very obvious that he is not feeling well at all.

Back in the RV, the first thing I did was to call my vet and make an appointment to get Mikey in. We are all set up for 3:00 pm this afternoon. Now, we just have to wait as it is now only 12:00 pm.

We sat around until it was time to make the drive into the Vet’s office. When we arrived, we were shown into one of the examination rooms where I would spend the next 1.5 hours while Mikey was being worked on in a different place. The Veterinarian would bring him back in occasionally and then whisk him away again for more and different tests. Finally, an hour and a half later, they brought him out with all of his tests completed.

The vet came in to talk to me about his condition and gave me some medication for Mikey. They had already given him various injections.

We went out to the car and made the drive back to Henly where Mikey hopped out of the Jeep glad to be back in familiar territory. We went out for a short walk just to show Mikey that he was back home and away from those nasty Doctors.

We were sitting outside when I spotted Peggy walking towards the RV. A few minutes later, Delores came over and we moved the party to the outside table. Delores had brought her own beer and I supplied Peggy and myself the small bottles of wine I like so much. I brought out a bag of potato chips and the party was complete. We sat there for at least an hour or more talking up a storm with Mikey asleep under the table until the girls decided it was time to go back to their own RV’s.

Mikey and I headed back indoors where we sat and watched TV for a while before going off to bed.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Wednesday 10/01/2025

    October 9th, 2025

I awoke and lay in bed thinking of the day ahead and what it might bring. We have nothing planned but I checked to be sure and realized that it was the first day of October. I have a Doctors appointment tomorrow with my eye doctor but it is not before 2:20 pm so no rush to get there.

As is our morning routine, Mikey helped me to bring out the feeders making sure that they all had seed. The number of birds has dropped off considerably and I suppose they have migrated to wherever they go for the winter. Although our Texas weather is still bloody hot. It is slowly cooling down but only by a couple of degrees.

I sat and worked on the blog bringing us up to date and thought about the day ahead. I glanced at the clock to see it was already 1:15 pm. Now, where did the time go?

It was still very hot outside not conducive to spending time outdoors so Mikey and I stayed indoors for the rest of the afternoon broken only by an afternoon walkabout for him to “go”. Then it was back indoors as fast as possible where it was lovely and cool. I thought about going grocery shopping and then decided that it wasn’t necessary and we could make do with whatever is in the refrigerator.

Time passed until it was time to bring in the bird feeders. I have noticed that there are very few birds that visit so I suppose that many have already left on their long journey to warmer climes for the winter.

With the feeders put away, it was time to move back indoors for the evening meal and entertainment.

Living in an RV Henly RV Park Thursday 10/02/2025

I got up at a reasonable hour and as we always do, harnessed up Mikey for that first all important walk. Mikey hopped down the steps to the grassy area and immediately cocked his leg and peed for about ten minutes. Well, OK maybe 30 seconds but it sure feels much longer. It’s a long time for him to hold it overnight.

We brought out the feeders and then went on that all important first walk just wandering around the park. We stopped at “the girls” RV where Peggy was sitting outside and I sat and chatted for a bit. BJ came home from her school bus drivers job as we were sitting there so I decided that we should continue with our walk.

We wandered around and then walked back to the RV for breakfast and that all important coffee. I worked on the blog and caught up with yesterday and started on today. Not much has happened so far and hopefully, it will stay that way. I knew that I had a Doctors appointment at 2:20 pm so I was keeping one eye on the clock to make sure I was not late.

I made the drive into Austin to my Eye Doctors office. I have been going to this Doctor for probably close to 50 years although my original Doctor has long retired. This time, I was treated by the original Doctors son who has taken over the business which I found very pleasing.

I spent almost an hour in there and managed to walk out without much in the way of changes to my eyesight meaning that I didn’t have to replace glasses. From that perspective, that appointment was very successful.

I made the drive back to Henly to be met by Mikey who wanted to go walkies which we did. We wandered around in the shady areas of the park before retuning to the coolness of the RV.

The rest of the day was the same as most of the previous ones.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Tuesday 09/30/2025

    October 8th, 2025

I got up at a reasonable hour and jumped into the shower which quickly woke me up. I threw on some clothes and harnessed up Mikey and out the door we went. As we usually do, we wandered around as without Sandy, we no longer have a leader. Mikey is terrible at it and has no set direction in mind so consequently, we wander aimlessly around going in whatever direction he decides. I pull on the leash here and there to give him some help. Normally it doesn’t matter where we walk as I make all the final decisions.

We didn’t see anyone on our travels as we wandered aimlessly around on the outside road before returning to the RV for breakfast. I had already brought out the bird feeders so when we got back, I fixed my own breakfast and that all important coffee. Mikey made for his hard food bowl and gobbled some of it down and then, as I usually do, I sat in front of the computer trying desperately hard to remember what happened yesterday.

I had received a call from Lisa, Dr Bittar’s Assistant about my hearing aids and she had requested that I bring in the ones that needed repair. So, I jumped in the Jeep making sure that I had the aforementioned aids with me in the charging box. As I have mentioned before, I have been deaf since I was 11 years old having suffered perforated eardrums through some ear infection all of those years ago. I have worn hearing aids for over 50 years progressing to bigger and better ones as they improved. I currently have two pairs both different than the other. One pair is battery operated with tiny replaceable No 10 batteries and the other is a rechargeable type that I hook up every night to recharge. Currently, I am having to mix and match on a daily basis as one of each set needs repair.

I drove into Dr Bittars office, a good 30 mile trip in Austin to drop off the ones needing repair and left them with the receptionist at the front desk as Lisa wasn’t available. Lisa is Dr Bittars technician who is the hearing aid wizkid.

I drove back to the RV and just before I got home, it occurred to me that I had made an error in leaving the charging box with the two damaged hearing aids as I would need the box to charge the one remaining aid of that type. At the same time, I received a call from Lisa telling me the same thing. So, cursing under my breath, I turned around and made the 30 mile drive back to Dr Bittars office to retrieve the charging box which Lisa had left at the front counter for me. Then, for the second time that morning, I made the drive back to Henly and the RV and this time, made it all the way. Mikey was pleased to see me and I took him out walking both to clear my head of the anger I was feeling for my own stupidity and the fact that he had to “go”.

We wandered around and he did his business before we returned to the RV. Most of the day had passed wasted because of my own carelessness. The rest of the evening was spent in the usual way with food for Mikey and myself and then watching television for the rest of the evening.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Monday 09/29/2025

    October 7th, 2025

I got up at a reasonable hour and after the usual cold water on the face routine, felt wide awake enough to take Mikey out walking. He was excited and raring to go as we wandered around the park. We didn’t see any other dogs on our travels but we did pass a couple of campers two of which were getting ready to pull out. I wished them “a safe journey” which is the saying all of us campers extend to our fellow travellers.

Back at the RV, as usual, I brought out the bird feeders and was lucky that I didn’t have to refill any of them. The number of birds that are visiting does seem to be lessening. It seems a little early for their mass exodus to wherever they spend the winter but then again, what do I know?

I was having trouble with the A/C in the RV and managed to flag Josh down and he took a look at it, Turns out that I had something else turned on instead of the A/C and he quickly fixed the problem. I brought out the awning to keep the morning sun out of the RV and closed all the blinds on the sun side, Later on, I will reverse the order and open those blinds and close the ones on the “new” sun side. For those of you not familiar with RV ways, because of the lack of thickness in an RV’s insulation, they quickly heat up in the sun and the A/C units runs pretty consistently all day. That is why I just recently replaced both A/C units in this rig which wasn’t cheap but unavoidable. As I pointed out earlier, A/C in an RV is an absolute necessity.

Incidentally, most RV’s have one big awning that extends on the front of the RV covering the main entrance and it too needs managing as I found out the hard way on previous RV’s. On one occasion, it rained very hard and I left the awning out but being made of flexible cloth, it filled with water and stretched accordingly and the weight of the water brought it down. That is why I bring it in if it rains hard. Another time, the wind got up and literally tore the awning away from its anchor point resulting in another replacement. Awning replacements are not cheap. Incidentally, I always bring the awning in if I am going to be away for any length of time for the above mentioned reason.

My most recent awning related incident happened last week. Somehow, the awning overwound and reversed itself so the out became in and I had to use opposite out and in buttons to operate it. That time, I managed to get it straightened out and now it works properly, out is out and in is in. Go figure!

Here in Texas, the sun is very hot and anything left outside is quickly hot to the touch. Things like outside stair rails and door knobs quickly overheat as do car interiors when they are parked even with the front sun shield in place. In the RV, I usually keep the blinds down on the sun side and reverse them as the sun travel it’s orbit. Incidentally, my RV has two A/C units, one for the front living area and the other for the bathroom and bedroom. They both operate independently with their own thermostats.

As we travel around the park on our walks, I am constantly reminded of how hot it is as every RV’s A/C units are noisily blasting away.

We went out for the final walk of the day and then brought in the bird feeders before calling it a night.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Sunday 09/28/2025

    October 6th, 2025

I rolled out of bed and after splashing cold water on my face, was really ready to face whatever was thrown our way today. Not that I was expecting it to be anything more than a typical, very hot Texas day. But, you never know. Mother Nature may decide to pull a fast one and send a tornado or something similar our way. Probably not though and it will be another very regular Summers day in Dripping Springs.

First thing was to take Mikey for a walk and we harnessed up and wandered around. Even at 9:00 am, the temperature was in the mid 90’s and it is going to be another scorcher. This is Texas after all. Thinking about it, it must have been hell for the early settlers.

It was quiet out but we did run into one camper who, with his wife, had brought his son to town to play baseball. The game was over and they were packing up there RV to go home. This park is very handily located just a couple of miles from the ball fields and we get a lot of baseball kids all through the summer.

Back indoors, I spent a lot of time looking on my laptop for adoptable dogs and located one that I liked. I immediately started the adoption process. Now, we shall just have to wait and see as there is no guarantee that my form will be accepted or that the dog may not have already have been adopted. I actually spent more than three hours looking for an adoptable dog.

The day had flown by and when I looked up, it was almost 6:00 pm. Without further ado, I harnessed up Sandy and we went out for a walk. We just wandered around in the shade as it was still very hot and then returned to the cool air conditioned RV and just sat around. It was so pleasant sitting outside that we stayed out for quite a while before moving back indoors for the evening meal and entertainment.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday 09/27/2025

    October 4th, 2025

I played catch up with the blog after falling behind for a couple of days. Nowadays, memory recall is not the easiest of things which is why I always try to stay caught up. Still, with the very few readers that I have, it is just a matter of pride in order to write the best and as honest as I can. The only reason I write at all is to keep my brain occupied otherwise, why bother as no one reads my stuff. With my failing memory, there is always a lot of guesswork as to what to write.

Mikey and I went out for our morning walk and as usual, just wandered around this time in the shady area behind Josh’s RV. We never met any other walkers of either the human or the animal kind. Before I left, I had tried to put the awning out as I usually do but for some reason, it wouldn’t budge. I called James, the RV Repair man. and he responded by giving me a list of things to try which I did. I managed to bring out the awning only it was backwards and came “in” on the “out” command but after playing around, got it to come all the way in on the right command. Always something with an RV.

The day slipped on by and I worked on the dog adaption and I spent time trying to figure out just where I was on finding another dog, I knew I had one picked out because I had visited it but could not locate any information as to what web site it was on.

I had been working on trying to get things to fall into place, but my aging brain wasn’t helping one little bit. Somehow, I need to find or remember more about the puppy I picked out a couple of days ago. I couldn’t complete the sale then because the puppy had to be spayed before they would release it. My only hope now is that they will contact me when the puppy is ready to pick up.

Mikey and I went out walking at least three times during the day. Most of the time, it was just around the park and one time was just around the Commons which was really so Mikey could “go”.

The girls, BJ, Peggy had invited me over for food and drinks and of course theirs and Delores company. The four of us sat and ate and drank beer or in my case, wine and generally just enjoyed the time we spent together. The three of them are the nicest people and I am pleased they selected me as one of their friends.

I finally went back to my RV and had to turn on the outside lights to bring in the bird feeders. With that task completed, I settled down to watch a movie before eventually retiring for the night.

Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday 09/27/2025

I got up at a reasonable hour and threw on some clothes, harnessed up Mikey and we went walking around the park. We ran into a couple of campers who were preparing to leave. They had come in for kids softball games played in town and the games were over for this week at least. I didn’t ask if their kids team won or lost as there is a limit to how much “small talk” either of us needed to make. Besides kids and softball are not really my thing,

Back at the RV, I fixed a simple breakfast of two pieces of toast, one marmalade and the other, peanut butter along with the all important coffee and then settled down to bring the blog up to date. With that out of the way, I sat and thought about what else I should do today. The hunt for another puppy is very high on my agenda and I wish I knew more about the standing of the one that I have been working on.

I went on line and scrolled around the various sites that I have been using to find another puppy. Part of the problem is that I lost connections with a couple of the sites and now, thanks to my bloody old memory, am having trouble trying to relocate those sites. I searched and searched to no avail and in the end, had to give up.

The rest of the day was spent in the usual way, working on the computer and taking the dogs walking before bringing in the bird feeders as another day came to an end.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Friday 09/26/2025

    October 3rd, 2025

The day started off as it usually does with first, putting out the bird feeders and then taking Mikey walking around the park. It was already warming up and to be truthful, I will be very glad when it starts to cool down. Still, after living in Texas for fifty or more years, one would think I would be used to it and I suppose I am. At least the weather is consistent and we can always count on very hot weather in the summer. On the other hand, our winters are not usually too bad with occasional snow and sometimes, heavy frosts and winter is generally not very long. We are in Fall now although weatherwise, it has not changed and it is still bloody hot. We could use some rain but Texas can always use rain.

I decided to go into town and follow up on a few dog leads that I had and after saying goodbye to Mikey set off to do just that. I found one dog that I really thought might be a match and made arrangements to meet it. The dog was very nice and gentle plus it was small just like I wanted. I thought that I could pick it up but after meeting the dog, was told that it had to stay for neutering and such. Disappointed that I could not bring our new buddy home, I drove back to the RV.

The girls had arranged a get together just for the hell of it and I wandered over to their RV. When I got there, my good friend Delores was back from her trip and we got to hear all about it. We sat for the rest of the evening after eating a wonderful meal that the girls prepared drinking wine and/or beer depending on the preference.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Wednesday 09/24/2025

    October 1st, 2025

The day started bright and sunny as we went out for our first walk of the day. Mikey and I wandered around not going anyplace in particular and the after a while, made our way back to the RV for breakfast. At least, that was the plan and I made a bowl of corn flakes for me but after a bit, decided that I wasn’t hungry after all and put it on the floor for Mikey. He probably won’t eat it but we’ll see. I drank the coffee as it did hit the spot. That is two mornings in a row that I have not eaten much. I still have plenty of fat so there is no fear of me starving.

I settled down to write the blog and quickly brought us up to date, as not much time had passed and nothing special had happened in that short space.

I received a call from Lisa, my Hearing Aid technician that my new aids were in and “Please stop by to pick them up”. So without further ado, I jumped in the Jeep to make the trip into Austin. I have been going to this same Doctor for probably 50 or more years and although the original Doctor has retired, have stayed with his clinic.

The trip in was smooth and trouble free and I conducted my business and was given a couple of packages containing a new pair of one kind and a single aid for my back up set. I thanked them for their service and made the drive home stopping only to get a Latte to drink along the way.

Mikey was very pleased to see me when I arrived back at the RV and I harnessed him up so we could go walking around the Park. We didn’t stay out for too long as the temperature was well into the nineties and it was just not comfortable for either of us.

We sat around indoors in the A/C working on the blog and doing other important things amongst them, trying to work out if and how we could see a new puppy or if we could even afford it. Let me re-phrase that. What I meant was did I want to pay the exorbitant fees that are easily in the thousands of dollars that some sites are charging or go with the cheaper sites. There are pets out there that cost only $100.00 or so and the older ones are usually no fee. I don’t need a pedigreed pup, just another companion for Me and Mikey.

The day wore on and we either stayed indoors in the A/C and listened to an Audiobook or went out walking the dogs finding as much shade as possible along the way.

Finally, it was time to bring in the bird feeders as another day came to a close.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Tuesday 09/23/2025

    September 30th, 2025

We had another quiet and depressing night and try as I might, I could not stop thinking about Sandy. I miss her so much and was expecting her to show up any minute. Of course, the reality is that she is buried outside and has a huge pile of rocks on top of her grave to keep other wild things from digging her back up. I will continue searching for another dog not to take her place but for companionship both for me and Mikey although Mikey does not appear to be affected by her absence.

Mikey and I went out walking the park and the only other people with pets that we saw were my next door neighbor Noel and his dog Murphy and they were walking in the opposite direction to us. We wandered around going no place in particular before returning to the RV for breakfast. At least, that was the plan but in reality, Mikey wasn’t hungry and neither was I as I ended up with a Yogurt. The coffee was important and it tasted good.

I worked on the blog and brought it up to date which wasn’t hard as it was only 11:00 am and not much had happened yet. I had already caught up with yesterday and had posted it.

Delores stopped by and brought back the blanket she had washed for me that Sandy had soiled as she died. We chatted for a while and then she left to go back to her RV and I looked around for things to do. As we usually do to pass the time, me and Mikey went out walking the park.

I decided that I should go into to town to follow up on another dog lead and without further ado, made the drive to the listed address. As it happened, this particular dog had already been adopted so gotta keep looking.

I returned to the RV and took Mikey out for another walk and then we sat on the deck just watching the world go by before bringing in the feeders for one more day,

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Monday 09/22/2025

    September 29th, 2025

We got up at a reasonable hour and took a shower before throwing on some clothes and heading out the door. It was another typical sunny and hot summers day in Texas and as we try to do, we walked the shady areas under the trees. The shade drops the temperature probably by at least ten degrees and believe me, every little bit helps here in Texas. Again, we were on our own as we did not see any other dogs walking their owners.

After the walk and as usual, I brought out the bird feeders. I did not have to refill any of them which is a sure sign the birds are not feeding. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen any squirrels either although I don’t know what they do when they are not at my place. Probably bother someone else and break their bird feeders as they do mine.

We have no plans so it will be another day of wait and see just in case something comes up. I haven’t heard back from my enquiries on adopting a new pet as a companion for Mikey and of course, for me. We have a lot of time and as eager as I am to find a new buddy for us, we have to let the slow wheels of time roll by as things are put into place.

I sat and worked on the blog and a few other things and happened to glance at the clock and to my astonishment, it was already 2:00 pm. Time really flies when you are having fun or even if you are doing nothing.

We went out for an afternoon walk again in the wooded area to try to stay a little cooler and also to give Mikey’s feet a break from the hot blacktop. The rest of the day was spent indoors in the A/C. As we always do, just before it got dark, we brought in the bird feeders and shut up the outside shop as another day came to an end.

Living in an RV Henly RV Park Tuesday 09/23/2025

We got off to a nice early start and of course, the first order of business was to take Mikey out walking. We wandered around going nowhere in particular but happy to be out and about. The only other people and dogs that we met were Noel walking Murphy who were going in the opposite direction to us.

We wandered around but it was already getting hot out and even though we were mostly in the shade, it was still uncomfortable so we cut the walk short and returned to the RV. I worked on the blog and brought us up to date and then looked around for something else to do.

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Saturday 09/20/2025

    September 27th, 2025

Another day rolled around and I wonder what this one had in store for us. We have nothing major planned except to continue with our search for another dog to keep Mikey and me, company.

I rolled out of bed at a somewhat reasonable hour at least by my standards and the cold water on the face routine quickly brought me wide awake. I threw on some clothes and then grabbed Mikey’s leash and out the door we went to wander around.

We had nothing planned but I am sure something will come up to keep us busy. It usually does. We went out walking as we always do and just wandered around. We spotted Murphy with his owner Noel walking in front of us but I made no effort to catch up. Dogs are best walked alone then they are not distracted by whoever is walking with them. Different story for when they are in the Play Pen. Then they can wander to their hearts content just as long as they get along nicely.

Back in the RV, I continued to work on the Adoption papers that I have been filling out just in case another dog shows up that Mikey (and I) might like. By the way, the adoption and selection process are very strict with a standard set of rules and lots of paperwork to fill out. We have the rest of our lives to find the right mate for Mikey and me but I am eager to find another pup to ease the ache in my heart.

I had to go into town and very reluctantly said goodbye to Mikey and promised him I would not be long. I was gone a couple of hours and he went nuts when I returned with lots of kisses and jumping around, I harnessed him up and got out the door as quickly as I could so he could work off his exuberance without jumping all over me.

The rest of the day was spent quietly and later on, Mikey and I went to visit the girls and sat and chatted to them for a while. Then it was back to our RV for more walkies and finally to call it a day as the night came creeping in.

Living in an RV Henly RV Park Sunday 09/21/2025

Both Mikey and I had a good nights sleep and very reluctantly crawled out of bed to face the day. I took a shower which woke me up and found clean clothes before harnessing up Mikey to go walking. We got out the door and just wandered around the park. There were no other dogs out but it was a bit later than usual which probably accounts for it.

Back at the RV, I brought out the bird feeders filling those that needed it. For some reason, there does not appear to be as many birds stopping by. I don’t know where they have all gone as I would have thought it to be too early for hibernation.

I had bought a new coffee maker as the one that I have stopped working for whatever reason. The new one is bit bigger with extra gizmos so I spent time reading on how to make coffee. This one is sophisticated enough that it even froths the milk. Go figure. I really don’t need that fancy a machine but it was on sale so why not. Now, if I can only figure out how it works…

I eventually had that coffee and along with a bowl of corn flakes, enjoyed breakfast, I put the left over milk down for Mikey but so far, he is more interested in napping alongside me or on my lap. We have nothing planned for the day but I am sure something will pop up. It always does.

    September 26th, 2025

Mikey and I had a peaceful night and except for the calls of Nature, managed to sleep through it. I am getting used to the fact that there is no more Sandy except when I walk out the door and see her grave right in front of me. I really need to work harder on getting another little dog.

We went out walking as we always do and just wandered around. The camp site is pretty empty as a lot of people have finished travelling for the year. There are still a lot of full timers out there but many of them have what they consider a permanent site and are parked for the winter. We too, fall into that category except I don’t travel at all anymore. I no longer have a tow vehicle as my Jeep car is not made to tow an RV. It was fun while it lasted and my only regret is that I wish I had started sooner.

I worked on the blog for a bit and noticed that my phone was scrolling so I jumped in the car and made my way to the ATT store in town. The Tech fiddled around and got the thing working properly.

I made my way home where Mikey was very pleased to see me. I’m sure that he too misses Sandy especially for the times he is left alone. I wish I could bring him with me all the time but I can’t because it is way too hot to leave him in the car even with the engine running and the AC on. Another reason to get him a buddy, male or female to keep him company when I have to go out and can’t take him with me.

I sat and listened to an Audiobook for most of the afternoon until it was time to go walking again. We wandered around but it was very hot out and neither of us wanted to stay out for very long. Back in the RV the rest of the afternoon and evening was spent in the usual way,

  • Living in an RV Henly RV Park Thursday 09/18/2025

    September 25th, 2025

We got up around the usual time and after the cold water treatment and putting on some clothes, were ready to go out walking and face the day. Mikey and I wandered around and I couldn’t help to notice just how different it is walking just one dog instead of two. All the more reason to find Mikey another buddy as soon as possible. Actually, I need another dog to help boost my grief over losing Sandy but am having trouble locating one that appeals to me. I am not looking for a pedigree dog but rather one that is like a Maltese Mix if possible.

I was looking on the web perusing the different sites out there and came across one that has a lot of dogs many of which would be fine buddies for me and Mikey but in many cases, the starting price was well over $2500.00. I expect to pay something but certainly nothing in that price range which was the low end as the prices went up to over $5000.00. I have never heard of anyone paying that sort of money for a dog!

It was a quiet day as I continued my search. I drove to a couple of Pet Shelters but they both had only big dogs. The small ones were in foster homes and required an appointment to view them. Incidentally, I have made contact with a couple of foster parents and am waiting to hear back from them.

I did some grocery shopping on my travels and then returned back to the RV to take Mikey out walking again. I hate to leave him alone but it is too hot to leave him in the car and I can’t leave the motor running while I’m looking or shopping.

The rest of the day was spent in the usual way.
