I sat outside on the deck today waiting to see what might come my way truth to tell there was not much going on not even a bird singing its song a couple of birds did fly our way only for a minute did they stay as the bigger birds blocked their path and so it turned out they had to be last and wait their turn for the big birds to go I wonder why Nature planned it so in the human world it is the opposite way as the larger one has no say but stands back and waits and does not proceed that is unwritten but is Human Creed In a perfect World that would be the way so the smallest one would have their say and because of their size would go first unless you want to come off the worst Who am I kidding I do not know there is no perfect world to show each for themselves and to heck with the rest strength and size always beats the test and rather than a problem create the smaller guy accepts his fate that because of his size he is way too late and will always be the end of the line which in most cases is perfectly fine as the smaller guy uses his brain and life turns out to be just the same. I have bird feeders hanging outside to feed the birds as the title implies not looking at any particular breed as all are welcome to eat the seed they fight and squabble as all birds do why they do it I have no clue as there are lots of feeders for them to eat all filled with seed their favorite treat the smaller birds all have learned keep one eye open and don’t get hurt by the bigger birds who crash and burn everytime they come in to eat as they use their size to defeat driving the other birds away and eating the seed all the day
A cat on a leash. The owners walked around the park this way.
I had a funny old night waking and sleeping very intermittently. I had no idea what the problem was although I had things on my mind that I was subconsciously worrying about. All to do with car insurance which I spent some time on yesterday. I must have been able to blot them out eventually as I awoke around 7:00 am. I paid a visit to the bathroom with the typical old man’s complaint and thought about staying up, but the bed looked way too inviting, and I crawled back in and cuddled the dogs for 30 minutes.
I eventually got up and harnessed the dogs so we could attend to the bird feeders and then we went out walking around the camp site. We covered almost a mile on that first walk which was surprisingly good.
Back at The Caboose, I tied the dogs up so they could watch and went to work watering the plants. I found one plant that I had to stick back in the ground but overall, the deer have not been too destructive…yet.
One of my neighbors, Greg, stopped by and we chatted for a bit as I was working on the watering, then he continued his walk, and I went back inside having done all I could do outside at least for a bit.
I fixed us breakfast, but Sandy had one of her “moods” on and would not eat hers. So, I picked up all the hard food that was in bowls on the floor and put it out of her reach. The objective is for her to get hungry enough to eat what I give her which contains her medicine. I wish I knew of another way except using food for her to take her pills. They are crushed up to a powder and sprinkled over her other food. Sometimes, she just gobbles it down, other times, not so much. Dogs…
I fixed breakfast for myself, and Sandy had a tiny taster, but it did not help in encouraging her to eat her own food. Big sigh. Then it was time to work on the blog. Luckily, I was caught up with yesterday and only had to worry about today and as most mornings are the same, it was not difficult at all.
I sat and watched as the birds visited the feeders. I have a lot of Goldfinches and they are so pretty to watch with their bright yellow plumage. Then of course, there are the Grackles in large numbers. I even had the squirrel stop by to eat his fill which is not much, so I do not mind him coming. He was bold enough to come up on the deck to get a drink of water out of the dog’s bowl. BTW, the new seed appears to hit the spot with the birds as there is not half as much waste most if which was crushed corn. I guess that the smaller birds do not eat corn in any description as it is probably too hard for them to break up. Besides, it makes a good filler for the manufacturers to dump in the mix. More corn and less seed.
On the whole, it was a very quiet day with not much of anything going on. I worked on the usual household chores that we do every day or two. Normal things to keep the RV running smoothly. We also sat around a lot either making a fuss of the dogs or trying to doze off which, by the way, I am not particularly good at. I close my eyes and try to relax and that is it. No naps. Still, even without dozing off, it is still very relaxing to sit there with my eyes closed shutting out the outside world.
In one of the odd moments my eyes were open, I found them staring directly into Sandy’s eyes which had a” Gotta go” look. That brought me out of my reverie and back to reality as we harnessed up to go out walking.
We wandered around but neither the dogs nor I were into walking, and we only covered 1.3 miles for the day. Still, better than nothing…
The rest of the evening was spent in the usual way.
At times, I slept great last evening but there were other times when I lay awake worrying about this and that. I do not worry intentionally but the thoughts sneak in and are hard to get rid of which keeps me awake. Eventually, I drop back off to sleep.
I woke up this morning around 8:00 am and crawled out. The first thing was to wander around raising all the blinds to let the heat of the sun in to warm the RV. Later, I lower the ones on the sun side, or the RV will warm too much, and the A/C will come on sooner than necessary.
RVs are built both for economy and to save as much weight as possible in the construction. Consequently, the walls are only 2 inches thick with that space filled with insulation. When you compare that to a house with four or more-inch walls and at least 3.5 inches of insulation you can see the difference. Consequently, the RV’s A/C must work a lot harder and is nowhere near as powerful a unit as a house A/C.
Mine has two A/C’s, one in the living area and one in the bedroom, both set on the roof and they both operate independently. Incidentally, there is only one heater unit for the entire RV, but it does the job plus the electric fireplace throws out a lot of heat besides being pretty to look at.
Modern day RV’s compare well to a house on many counts plus they are moveable. So, if you do not like your current site or have noisy neighbors, then it is extremely easy to get up and leave.
Daniel was debugging the RV and was spraying both inside and out and told me to be gone for an hour before returning. We just kept on wandering wherever the dogs’ noses pointed and had no rhyme or reason to walk. He wanted us out of the way so the bug spray would dry before we got back.
We eventually returned and there was no smell or anything and we went about the business of breakfast. Mikey did an excellent job on his, Sandy, not so much and did not eat hers. I have moaned about it many times before, if she did not have a pill to take, I would not serve her breakfast. As it is, she usually eats the same bowl of food later but then she gets only one pill when she is supposed to have two. I crush the pill up and sprinkle it on her food. I try to choose stuff that I know she likes and usually it works but there are those days…
I worked on the blog bringing us up to date and looked around for something else to do. Not finding anything pressing, we went out walking again. That is one good thing about having dogs is that when and if I am bored or have nothing to do, I can always take the dogs walking and they are always willing to go. Today we covered 2.3 miles.
The rest of the day was spent just sitting around on the deck with a beer just watching the world go by. Actually, I was waiting for it to start to get dark so that I could bring in the feeders, which is generally the last thing I do outside for the day.
The rest of the evening was spent in the usual way eating food while watching the TV.
The AC in my RV is as noisy as it can be although it does it’s work very well of cooling the house and you can tell without the unit, we would be toast quite literally we make the most of the cooling it provides so we can live comfortably inside as on a hot summer’s day it enables us to play indoors where it stays cool and the dogs stay inside as they are no fools why go outside out in the heat when staying inside is really a treat to take a nap or read a book or even the TV is worth a look whatever we choose to spend the time the A/C makes it all sublime.
Thank you for whoever invented A/C’s Written 03/01/2024
It must be said when I am dead no one will remember me I am not rich or famous and will not go down in history I lived my life the best I know being honest to the core three times I tried the marriage thing until I said, “No more”. quite obviously it was plain to see that wives and I don’t mix and so I spent the rest of my days my ways all set and fixed although I like the opposite sex as friends like people do my dogs are my companions now at least they have no clue and love me for what I am and anything I do as we go out walking around the park just the dogs and then me too.
I was sitting in my RV thinking about my life of all the years that have passed and me living without a wife back in my younger days I tried the marriage thing three times but every time it did not work out and I was left stuck in my ways.
What I did not know all of those years ago that even if I found it bliss my wives did not find it so I must have been a terrible mate for them to leave me as they did my problem was, I did not know that they all disliked me so.
After three I gave up wives and lived alone for the rest of my days by then I was way too old to even think of changing my ways the one constant in my life was to have a dog or two around they filled the void left by those gone and enabled me to carry on.
I sat here thinking and wondering why I have trouble making words fly it used to be to write a rhyme took me very little time but now the thoughts are not the same no longer jumbled in my brain to come out as a beautiful rhyme and even though I take the time no longer can I write the verse to stir the mind as yet unrehearsed because I cannot see the way for the words to make a play and come out together in a rhyme obviously it is not the time to sit and think and try my best the words all come out in a jumbled mess and so I decided it’s not the time for me to write a stupid rhyme.
I tried to write a poem today but other thoughts got in the way simple things that happen in life impressive enough to bring on strife I try to live in a simple way which is easy to do as the dogs have no say my two little dogs who are my friends demanding enough to suit their ends our days are very much the same compared to some are very tame as we walk around the park never walking in the dark unless it is a special day to see the lights as they play casting shadows on the ground sparkling and flashing all around blown up dolls as big as a house reindeer and Santa can be found and the lights as they flash a pretty scene for Christmas is coming and everyone dreams to get lots of presents and eat lots of food and hope that nobody is a Scrooge as Christmas comes but once a year and with it brings a host of good cheer plenty of food and lots to drink and presents galore and friends who think they have the perfect gift for you but they really have no clue as you are dreaming in a much higher way thinking of Cadillacs a real toy to play or even a lowly Ford would do as long as it drives and colored blue of course we settle for what we get as Christmas is a time to set friendships and memories good food and wine and the company of others which is so divine and so my friends take good cheer and Merry Christmas to you and those you hold dear.

Hoorah he cried as he saw the rain striking patterns on his window pane hoping that it would last a while and that it would make us smile for rainy days are not the norm which is why we get so forlorn with day after day of blazing heat and a cloudy day would be a treat two hundred and fifty days a year the sun shines bright and the sky is clear with temperatures of one hundred degrees we will certainly not freeze and in truth when it does get cold we think of the summer and our thoughts unfold to those temperatures of 100 degrees
I live in an RV park it started off as just a lark buy a camper and stay the night at an RV Camper site travel around from here to there driving along with hardly a care call ahead to reserve a spot so you have your own little lot only good until you move on as the open road becomes your song and staying at an RV park only applies when it gets dark some parks are better than the rest and offer more and not in jest swimming pools and shady spots even a store for what you forgot a bathroom shower to clean the dirt for the rigs whose space is inert because they are small compact and light and they are built for travelling right some of us are here to stay having travelled along the way and now too old to move around a permanent campground we have found as we like living in our RV even though it may not be the type that moves along at pace instead a permanent rig in place where we will spend the rest of our years living here along with our peers.

I sat inside of my RV wondering what my eyes might see when I look outside my door is it changed or still like before the wind did not blow and it has not rained so everything should still be the same I looked at the feeders filled with seed to give the birds all they need to keep them coming back to me as I sit and watch them flying free they land on the feeders to eat for a bit but something stops them continuing to sit so instead they hop from place to place trying each feeder for a different taste but alas each feeder has the same seed must be dull and boring for them indeed but then again it is their food and eating seed is what they are used the Humming Birds are a different kind with a special mix that they find in their own containers hanging high sugar water so sweet to help them fly with wings flapping at am amazing speed eighty times per second is what they need to keep their tiny bodies hovering high and sipping the mixture as they fly we even had a bird of prey much bigger and looking to join the fray only the food this time was another bird and luckily for them they had heard the hawk as it came crashing in and scattered so fast on their wings and all escaped I’m happy to say and will be back to feed on another day. I love to watch the birds as they eat and wish with some of them, I could meet but to them I present a dangerous look just like the hawk the lesson they took was to stay away from others like me and in their wisdom, I could see that all I can do is supply the seed for my feathered friends is what they need.
When I bought my first RV I had no idea of what I might see travelling around the countryside just me and two dogs along for the ride actually they are much more to me my constant companions just we three enjoying this life and wondering when how much longer until the end I have given up the travelling life easy to do as I have no wife nobody telling me what I should do and sometimes I think that I have no clue we are parked in a permanent space at Henly Park a wonderful place the grass is mowed and weeds are whacked and the place looks tidy and that’s a fact Daniel and Malinda are the hosts and they have every reason to boast as they both work hard to keep it clean the most wonderful park you have ever seen they go out of their way to make people feel at home that they are welcome here and not really alone and depending on how long you stay you will still have to pay your way RV living although not cheap is a wonderful life and good company to keep and if there’s a reason to move along just hitch up the truck and be long gone.

When I was young and just a kid it did not matter what I did as the time always passed so slow and sometimes it was hard to know should I go home to eat a bite or can we play with all our might cops and robbers, cowboys and guns in our minds were the only ones shooting each other in make belief play acting dead no small relief to play dead for a while and rest our bones till the game is over and we go home or maybe we start another game change the sides so they’re not the same different players in each team hoping that they have not been seen and in our minds we shoot to kill and cry out your dead from over the hill then the arguments will start I am not dead just playing the part your shot at me was high and wide now you must be on the other side as I have shot you through the heart and in this game you have no part we would play this make belief until it was dark and we would creep out of the woods and head back home in a group and not alone for we all feared walking at night when none of us ever had a light to show us the way back to our homes where with our folks we were never alone that was a long time ago that I was eight or nine years old or so and we spent our time out in the woods just as every young kid should away from the books and the radio too not needing those things or maybe a few for the evening when it’s time for bed and the cops and robbers and cowboys instead turn into dreams as we sleep the time to do it tomorrow will be just fine eighty years have now long gone and I remember those time just like a song when we played in the woods without a care our whole life before us ours to share and now I am old and think of those times having to put it all in rhyme so that others can share the life we had as kids without any strife even though there was World War Two we were kids and had no clue except to dive for cover till the bombers passed or the doodlebugs motor would not last and when it cut out the thing would fall with a mighty explosion with a pall of smoke and debris and sometimes a form as someone dies and we are so forlorn but in the end we lived our lives through all of the chaos of that time and eighty year later remember the day when in the fields we went out to play.
I thought about the recent days and the many different ways that I have spent my waking time living this life so sublime doing what I like to do most of the time without a clue with no one else to tell me wrong I breeze through life like a song knowing the words and humming the tune as the saying goes over the moon with the people I know here at the park always ready for a lark drive fifty miles to go to a show drink some beer and dance real slow or hop around as the music speeds and those of us with clumsy feet need lots of room or we will trip over ourselves as we feel hip so we stand in one place and move real slow just to put on our own show and let the dancers do their thing swinging by like birds on a wing.
The dogs took me walking the other day as we usually do and along the way we passed not one but three young men each running separately setting a trend as they moved gracefully forward striding along in effortless movement covering the ground with graceful ease and moving at a respectable speed I looked at the dogs as they dragged me along cursing under my breath with each furlong suffering agonies with each step that we took wishing I was at home with a book instead of getting pulled here and there as the dogs could smell the scent in the air of others dogs that had passed before we had even got out of the door actually this is not close to true Sandy does drag as we continue to walk along at a pretty fast pace at least for me although it’s no race especially when compared to the men who have just run on by and then back again in the time that it takes us a few yards they have galloped along without any regards to the effort it takes but oh to be young and join with them and their run alas my running days are long gone and I am content to carry on with Sandy always taking the lead pulling Mikey and me along like a steed and that is the way that it will be as old age has taken its toll on me I hope these young men through the years will continue to run through the gears staying healthy and fit as long as they can for running is cheap since time began and do not let life get in the way of staying healthy and fit or have any say doing it as fast as they can with thousands of runners throughout the land.
